This 1972 DeTomasso Pantera received a complete ground up restoration under the direction of nationally recognized award winning California Pantera owner/restorer Jim Kilpatrick. Aesthetically, this Pantera appears near stock; however, upon close examination it is clear it has been tastefully custom restored to a level of quality exceeding factory production. Since the restoration was completed the car has been owned by two prominent collectors and has seen minimal road time.
The restoration included a complete overhaul of the engine by Reath Automotive in Long Beach, CA. Technical highlights of the motor include a .030 clean up bore prior to the installation of 10.5 to 1, flat top pistons. The stock heads have been replaced, with “Boss” heads, with titanium valves. Valve lifting is handled by an Isky hydraulic cam shaft. Induction is assigned to two Weber 48s mounted side draft style on an Edelbrock aluminum manifold. (the Webers are not currently on the engine; but, go with the car) The conservatively built motor has a red line of 6,500 rpm and a horsepower output estimated to be 400hp. The oil system uses a modified 10 quart pan.
As part of the restoration, a completely new wiring harness, all new bushings and bearings, Koni shocks and a completely rebuilt braking system were installed.
The outstanding body and paint work on this vehicle were painstakingly done by Eddie Meek Automotive Body & Paint in Santa Ana, CA. Six months were spent on the body work and eight months were allocated to the paint work. The stunning paint job involves a Ferrari red hue with a touch of blue. Nineteen coats of RM acrylic lacquer were applied to obtaining the vehicle’s incredible exterior finish.
The custom interior work was done by Thornton’s Upholstery in Santa Ana, CA. The ice gray leather with black trim has been custom dyed to blend perfectly throughout the entire interior compartment.
This Pantera rides on Gotti wheels and P-7 tires. The rears are 10.5 by 16 and the fronts are 8 by 15.
