The 1964 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport was promoted in 1964 from a trim option to its own model. Coupled with a facelift over the 1963 models that gave the Impala a squared-off and more masculine look, SS sales exceeded 1963 production by more than 30,000 units. The Impala SS equipped with 409-cubic-inch V-8 had become legendary following the release of the Beach Boys ode to the performance car with the 1962 song 409.
