Meticulously built and fully documented 3-window coupe. 350 with Muncie M21 close ratio 4-speed, Ford 9-inch. A/C, power windows, powerful stereo. Fully sorted and ready to enjoy with timeless good looks.
This particular ’32 3-window is based on a Gibbon body with a Just-A-Hobby chassis underneath, and might be the most thoroughly documented build we’ve ever seen. The chopped, full-fendered shape is classic ’32 Ford, and the finish quality is quite good in every regard. The hood is a 3-piece steel unit that tilts from the side or can be completely removed, and it, too, fits well. Door handles have been shaved, and it offers a simple black paint job with a single Ford Blue pinstripe which matches the detailing on the chassis. Flush-fitting taillights, a spreader bar with integral turn signals, and a set of King Bee headlights on a dropped bar keep it functional and stylish, along with peep mirrors mounted on both doors.
The cozy interior has been finished in gray tweed, as is fashionable in closed rods. Note details like the floor-mounted pedals that retain the spirit of the original, billet handles and arm rests, as well as features like power windows, A/C, and a key fob remote that will open the windows, eliminating unreliable door solenoids but keeping the ultra-clean exterior look. Even the trunk is neatly finished, with a custom vented battery box (the box shown in photos is designed to fit over the battery, but the battery currently in place has handles that are just a touch too big), amplifier for the stereo, and a fire extinguisher.
The engine is a 1973-vintage Chevrolet 350 built by Racing Head Service. Like all small block Chevys, it runs well, makes great power, and just goes about its business with a minimum of fuss. Inside there’s a Competition Cams camshaft, a full roller timing set, and a lightweight aluminum flywheel that gives this car instantaneous throttle response. It’s fed by an Edelbrock 600 CFM 4-barrel atop a Performer RPM intake, and a set of stainless Kerker exhaust manifolds dump into a custom-built 100% stainless steel exhaust system. The transmission is a Muncie M21 close-ratio 4-speed topped by a Hurst cue ball shifter, so it has a period feel and a bulletproof reputation. Out back, there’s a 9-inch Ford on a 4-link with coil-over shocks, and with 3.50 gears, it cruises easily but will still snap your head back when you punch it. Up front there’s a dropped axle from Posie’s, along with a Vega steering rack and a set of disc brakes. Note that all the welds on the frame have been smoothed and filled, giving it a seamless look, and a few tasteful applications of Ford Blue paint highlight the front suspension. Matching Ford Blue steelies wear 165SR14 front and 225/75/15 rear tires that give it the perfect stance. It shows a few signs of use, but thanks to the exceedingly complete service records that accompany the car, everything is in top condition and ready to drive immediately.
The car includes extensive paperwork, including full receipts for all the components that went into the build plus all subsequent maintenance, a complete build album of photos, manuals for all the equipment, plus a binder with complete specifications on every piece of the car, replacement part numbers, and maintenance history that’s specific enough to mention things like filling the tires with air.
Tastefully finished and expertly built, this is a no-stories rod available for a fraction of the price of building it yourself. With a traditional look that will never go out of style, it needs nothing to enjoy today or could serve as a foundation for something truly remarkable. Next summer, enjoy a fully-sorted 3-window coupe with all the goodies, all for the price of a Honda Accord. Call now!
