Description

1956 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE C-1 SOLD-SOLD-SOLD

This is one of the Most Striking Corvette's we have ever had the pleasure of placing in stock. It is finished in Polo White with Silver Coves and Red Interior. It carries a White Soft Top, 265 V8 / 210 hp w/ 4v Carb and Automatic Transmission. Options were few that year but, this car is fitted with nearly all of them: Heater, Wonderbar Signal Seeking Radio, Parking Brake Alarm Light, Courtesy Lights, Windshield Washer, White Wall Tires, Two-Tone Body Paint, Colored Top vs. Black, 3:36 Rear Axle and instead of the 3-speed manual, you could order the Powerglide, as seen in this car.. This was a full restoration, including Media Blast of a perfect 'no-hit car'. Though the '56 was offered with a 2-4v Carb option, the base motor Corvette is still viewed as the easiest Driven, Most- Trackable, least problematic.

Everyone has a favorite segment of years in the early Vettes...whether it's the C-2 Sting Rays ('63-'67) , the Shark Styled C-3's or the Early "Cove / Straight Axle" cars ('53-'62). But, if 1955 marks the Birth of the Performance Corvette's (6cyl. vs V8), 1956 signifies the Era it Grew-Up. It was the Beginning of the Corvette's World Class Racing Legacy. '56 was the year Zora Duntov, John Fitch and Betty Skelton drove a trio of 1956 Vettes to new land speed records on the sands of Daytona Beach. Just 30 days later the G.M. Factory entered 4 cars and won the 12 Hours of Sebring. By years end, Dr. Richard Thompson ("The Flying Dentisit") won his First of Five SCCA National Championships behind the wheel of a Corvette.

This model Vette was completely restyled in 1956 with not only a more rounded rear-end, striking curved coves, and slab sides found on the previous models, but, with a more agressive front end. The famous scoops remained on top of the fenders. Six colors were available with 'cove color' added at extra cost ($19.40). The biggest improvements were loosing the removable Plexiglass curtains and replacing them with proper, roll-up, Glass Windows and adding external door handles with locks. Even the Soft-top frame was improved so, it was easily operated. Incredibly, in an age of Massive Chrome Adornment, the Corvette was designed with 'exquisite' Spartan detailing. Emblems and Scripts were understated, the body clean and free of Giant Fins. The exhaust ports and tail lights can only be described as 'beautifully executed'. When you face-off the 1956 Corvette against other "sportscar' of the era... the Corvette wins hands down. Simply put; placed against the Austin Healey's, Rust-prone and over weight T-Birds, MGA's, Kaiser Darrin, Muntz Jet, Nash Healey, Triumph TR-3, Sunbeam Alpine, Jaguar XK-140, Morgan's and the like, these are some of the best-all-time sports cars ever made. Funny, as the Corvette was also grossly underpriced. In fact, it was initially overlooked because it was priced so low ($3120). As with previous years the Convertible was the only body style available.

This beauty comes to us from South Florida. It has benefitted from a complete frame-off restoration and though it's owner wasn't crazy about the politic's of the show circuit, it did win several 2nd Flight NCRS Trophies. Even better news. it has always been serviced by one of the most acclaimed Corvette Specialty Shops in South FL. Characteristically, it's important to know: the C-1 and C-2 corvettes have held their value better than almost any the other Marque. And, now it can be your Great Investment. $69,500 SOLD IMMEDIATELY
