1965 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS 442 SPORTS COUPE. THIS SURVIVING, ORIGINAL, NUMBERS MATCHING 442 SPORTS COUPE IS "NOT" A RESURRECTED JUNK YARD QUEEN BUILT FROM SEVERAL CARS, NOR IS IT A RESTORATION OF A RUST BUCKET. I HAVE BEEN DOING BODY WORK FOR 45 YEARS NOW, AND AFTER GOING OVER THIS CAR FROM BUMPER TO BUMPER, IT APPEARS TO HAVE "ALL THE ORIGINAL FACTORY SHEET METAL WITH NO RUST REPAIRS WHAT SO EVER". QUARTER PANELS, INNER AND OUTER WHEEL HOUSES, INNER AND OUTER ROCKERS, ALL FLOOR PANELS, DOORS, FENDERS, DECK LID, HOOD, COWL, ETC. APPEAR ORIGINAL AND UNTOUCHED, EXCEPT FOR AN EXCELLENT BASECOAT/CLEARCOAT REPAINT THAT HAS BEEN CORRECTLY DONE WITH ALL TRIM REMOVED,IN THE ORIGINAL FACTORY TARGET RED WHICH WAS THE COLOR IT LEFT THE LANSING FACTORY WITH. TO MY KNOWLEDGE IT IS A "NUMBERS MATCHING" ORIGINAL EXAMPLE OF A LANSING BUILT 1965 OLDSMOBILE 442. IT LEFT THE FACTORY AS A POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, FACTORY A/C CAR, AND IT REMAINS SO INCLUDING A WORKING R-12 A/C THAT STILL BLOWS "COLD AIR" THE DATA PLATE (SEE PHOTO) SHOWS IT WAS PRODUCED IN THE THIRD WEEK OF FEBRUARY 1965 AS A CUTLASS SPORTS COUPE AT THE LANSING MICHIGAN ASSEMBLY PLANT. THE DATA PLATE CONFIRMS IT WAS PRODUCED WITH A RED BUCKET SEAT INTERIOR (945B) AND A TARGET RED EXTERIOR COLOR (R-R). THE DATA ALSO IDENTIFIES THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT ORIGINALLY INSTALLED, AND REMAINING TO THIS DAY:

THE ENGINE BLOCK IS CAST WITH THE ORIGINAL CASTING NUMBER OF 389298B WHICH WAS USED ON THE 442 ONLY , AND USED FOR THE 1965 YEAR ONLY. THE BLOCK IS ALSO CAST WITH A JULIEN DATE OF 347. OTHER CASTING NUMBERS: INTAKE MANIFOLD 384439, EXHAUST MANIFOLDS 389269, 389268, HEADS 383821 WITH AN "A" CAST IN BOTH. ALL ENGINE NUMBERS ARE FACTORY ORIGINAL NUMBERS USED ON THE 400 C.I. IN THE 442. EVEN THE WATER PUMP HAS THE ORIGINAL FACTORY PART NUMBER OF 383786, WHICH IS CORRECT FOR THE 400C.I. WITH FACTORY A/C OR SPECIAL COOLING. THE ORIGINAL ROCHESTER 4 JET AND ORIGINAL AIR CLEANER TOP OFF THE ENGINE. THE ORIGINAL ST300 "SWITCH PITCH" JETAWAY TRANSMISSION REMAINS INTACT, WITH THE CORRECT STAMPING OF 65NJ ON THE SERVO. THE CORRECT WORKING FACTORY "SWITCH" FOR THE "SWITCH PITCH" IS STILL ON THE THROTTLE LINKAGE. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH THE CORRECT 3.23 RATIO REAR GEAR WITH POSITRACTION. THE ENGINE IS SMOOTH AND TIGHT WITH NO SIGNS OF SMOKING WHAT SO EVER. THE ACCERATION OF A 60'S MUSCLE CAR IS QUITE APPARENT. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SMOOTHLY AND IS QUITE SNAPPY UNDER ACCERATION. THIS 442 STEERS AND HANDLES VERY GOOD AND TIGHT, AS THE FRONT END HAS BEEN REBUILT WITH ALL NEW BUSHINGS, BALL JOINTS, TIE ROD ENDS, IDLER ARM, AND RAG JOINT. BOTTOM END IS CLEAN AND DRY WITH NO OIL OR WATER LEAKS. INTERIOR HAS NEW UPHOLSTERY AND CARPET, WITH ALL REMAINING COMPONENTS ORIGINAL. PADDED DASH LOOKS BRIGHT AND NEW WITH NO CRACKS AT ALL. THE PAINT HAS ABSOLUTELY NO DOORS DINGS. THIS CAR SHOWS 97113 ORIGINAL MILES AND HAS EVIDENTLY SPENT ITS LIFE IN A DRY INDOOR CLIMATE. THIS IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME FIND. AN ORIGINAL SURVIVOR IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION, AND EXCEPT FOR THE WHEELS AND TIRES IT IS AS IT WAS WHEN IT LEFT LANSING 47 YEARS AGO. SOME TRADES CONSIDERED. INSPECTIONS ARE ENCOURAGED.
