The MG A, introduced in late 1955, brought MG into the modern streamlined era and coincided with its acquisition by British Motors Corporation. The streamlined aerodynamic body was a dramatic departure from MGs traditional design but contributed to updating its appearance, as well as improving its performance. Other attributes of the car made it a much better, faster, more comfortable car capable of competing with its British rivals. The new 1,489cc BMC B-series engine delivered 68 horsepower and powered a conventional chassis with independent front suspension and a live rear axle. The frame rails flared out to make room for lower seats. In mid-1959 MG increased the engines displacement to 1,588cc. The added displacement and engine tuning brought the 1600s horsepower to 80. Front disc brakes were added and the side curtains were redesigned with sliding panels for better weather sealing, keeping the MG A competitive in a market that expected better performance and comfort. This 1960 MG A Roadster has been thoroughly restored to high quality driver standards and features Panasport-style alloy wheels and blackwall radial tires that subtly update its looks. It is completely equipped with top, side curtains and a tonneau cover and looks great in red with tan interior and a matching tan cloth top. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and presented, complementing the good paint job, upholstery, top and black carpets. An above average car, it will make a great weekend driver.
