1934 Ford V-8 Australian "UTE" - Roadster Pickup. MILD CUSTOM. GORGEOUS!
The story goes that in 1932 an Australian woman wrote to Ford Australia saying her family would like a vehicle that they could "drive to church on Sunday and haul pigs to market on Monday." The result was the 1934 Ford Australian "Ute" (short for "Utility" vehicle.) These tough little Fords were a favorite in the outback and farmers drove them 'til they dropped, after many years of service. In the 1950's and 60's the few remaining Utes also became a favorite of hot rodders as they made the ideal "surf wagon."
This Ute was restored and modified about 6 years ago. It was a complete, frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration with nothing left undone. It is all-steel, including the Australian-style box back. Chromed bed rails. The body and paintwork are spectacular. The panels are laser-straight and the fit and finish is phenomenal. Truly like a mirror. Please see the photos for full details. This is a true open Roadster, with no top. It has a full rear tonneau cover for the box and both a full and half black canvas tonneau for the cockpit.
The chassis and drivetrain are original '34 Ford. The engine is a 21 stud Ford flathead V-8 with Ford aluminum heads and large-logo Stromberg 97 carburetor. Dual exhaust with chrome "Red's" headers. It runs and sounds as sweet as it looks. Dropped front axle with 1948 Mercury 15" steelie wheels with bigs and littles wide whitewall tires. Hydraulic brakes. Just 2,100 miles since restoration. Converted to left-hand drive with new black faced Stewart-Warner winged gauges (including tachometer.) Turn signals. 12 volt electrical. Custom Duvall Windshield. Full red leather interior with matching red carpet. Shaved door handles with bear-claw latches.
For show or go, this one sweet ride.
