1928 Cadillac 341 Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton. CONCOURS RESTORATION!
When Harley Earl joined the GM Styling Department in 1927, the world of automobile design changed forever. Following the enormous success of the 1927 LaSalle, Earl turned his attention to the 1928 Cadillac line. The sweeping fenders and door lines, combined with the massive 12” diameter headlights and liberal use of accent plating invited comparison to the Hispano Suiza. Of all the Cadillac designs in 1928, none was more stunning than the Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton.
This particular car was rebuilt from a low-mileage, original 1928 Cadillac 140” sedan chassis, which was restored by Peggy Craft Restorers of Harriman, Tennessee. The authentically-styled Sport Phaeton body was painstakingly crafted by custom coachbuilder, and two-time Pebble Beach award winner, Larry Amsley of Chambersburg, Pennsylvana. The body is all-steel with wood framing, built exactly as it would have been in 1928. It is correct in every detail and absolutely stunning from every angle. The car is finished in a correct two-tone combination of red body with maroon fenders and moldings. The interior is oxblood leather with deep red carpeting. Tan Haartz cloth top with matching side curtains. Please see the photos. The car is eligible for submission to the Classic Car Club of America under the “new coachwork” classification (body built after 1948 in the style of an original and fitted to an authentic chassis.) It would also be welcome at all Cadillac-LaSalle Club events and tours.
Following restoration, the car remained in a private collection in a climate-controlled garage for several years. It was only driven approximately 50 miles and then sold to the current owner, a prominent collector in Oregon. He commissioned a full rebuild of the original engine. Everything was done to the highest standard by Portland Engine Rebuilders and the owner’s personal mechanic who formerly worked for the renowned Hill and Vaughn in Los Angeles.
The engine rebuild included new pistons, rings, valves, bearings, crankshaft balanced, rebuilt distributor, starter, generator, vacuum tank, fuel tank and fuel system; plus the transmission, transmission-driven air compressor, brakes, differential service and more. Receipts in excess of $35,000 are available, showing this and additional work. The car has been driven less than 10 miles since completion of the rebuild, last year. It runs and drives as a new Cadillac would in 1928 - wonderfully. In its first Northwest showing, at the Columbia River Concours d’Elegance, it received the "Most Elegant" Award.
Whether touring or showing, this beautiful automobile will garner appreciation from all.
WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BUYERS WORLDWIDE.
