CONCOURS RESTORATION! Spectacular fit and finish. SEE VIDEO.
Of the 532,152 cars produced by Ford in 1939, just 6,155 were Deluxe Station Wagons. While most were destroyed by the ravages of time and weather, this particular Woody lived most of its life in California, which for a wood bodied car, is an ideal environment. Today, 90% of the wood in this car is original, just as it was cut and fit by Ford's master body builders in 1939.
Several years ago, this wonderfully preserved car underwent a full concours quality restoration. No expense was spared to bring it back to showroom condition. The body was repainted to a mirror finish, the wood restored and refinished, new glass installed, a new, genuine leather interior was fabricated, new correct jute floor covering and mats, and new running boards fitted. A new top with correct drip rails was installed by legendary Ford Woody collector and restorer, Nick Alexander of Los Angeles.
With an eye toward modern driving yet in keeping with period mechanicals, an 8ba Ford/Mercury flathead V8 engine was installed. Fitted with 4" crankshaft, bored to 286 cubic inches, with 3/4 racing cam, Offenhauser high-compression aluminum heads and two Stromberg 97 carburetors, all receipts for the engine rebuild are available. The engine was mated to a rebuilt 1939 Ford transmission with rebuilt Columbia two-speed rear end with new controls. The electrical system was converted to 12 volts. All gauges were rebuilt, new electric windshield wipers fitted, along with a new exhaust system. 5 new radial wide whitewall tires. This car is an absolute pleasure to drive and easily keeps up with modern traffic. The current owner, who has a collection of many Ford V8's calls the driving and handling characteristics of this car, "Exceptional."
Without doubt, this is one of the finest 1939 Ford Station Wagons available today. If you are looking for a turn-key car that needs nothing except to be driven, shown and enjoyed, this is the one.
