Introduced for the 1957 model year, the new generation of Chevrolet was an instant hit. The car was new, with now iconic styling. This 57 Chevrolet is one very rare car as it still retains all of it original sheet metal, floors, and trunk pan. The frame off restoration was completed to high standards and the car presents extremely nice as a true show car. The paintwork is outstanding, with no signs of wear or damage. The chrome and stainless are excellent, as are the wheels and tinted glass. This car has one off the nicest bodies and rust free frames we have ever seen. The underside is also extremely clean and detailed to similarly high standards.
The interior was completed with an “Old School” theme by installing the seats out of a 1962 Impala SS. The original Impala center console was used and contains the control module for the 4 corner air ride system. The upholstery is Red Leather and is excellent, as is the dashboard, carpets, instruments, switches, seat belts, and door panels. This particular car still retains its original AM radio. A custom radio has been installed the glove compartment. The steering wheel is a custom smaller version of the original 55 Chevrolet.
The engine compartment is extremely clean and has been very nicely detailed, for extra cooling a Walker radiator is installed. The drive train is a 383 ZZ3 GMPP Crate engine, Edelbrock valve covers, aluminum heads, 3 two barrel carburetors, an Offenhauser intake, custom aluminum air cleaner with K&N filter, serpentine belt drive, Mallory ignition, custom built headers with a aluminum ceramic coating, custom exhaust with Flow Masters, a Muncie 4 speed with Hurst shifter, 3:70 rear end, a complete ridetech Air Ride Technologies Shock Waves System, disc brakes, and American Racing wheels. The car runs out strong and shifts smooth. It is a very drivable car with just the right look and power range.
The ZZ383 crate engine displaces 383 cubic inches and features a 3.8-inch stroke, a compression ratio of 9.6 to 1 and a .509/.528 lift camshaft with 222/230 duration at .05 lift. The ZZ383 comes equipped with GM's Fast Burn cylinder heads, a 4340 nitride and induction hardened crank, a steel camshaft and forged PM rods. The Fast Burn cylinder heads have lightweight valves and retainers, manufactured from stainless steel, to provide dependable operation during extended revolutions per minute (rpm). The Performance Specifications per GM equipped the ZZ383 with its single-plane intake, a 750 CFM Demon carburetor and headers measuring 33 inches long with 1.75-inch primaries and a 4-inch collector during testing. On the Dyno, the ZZ383 crate engine registered 425 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 449 foot-lbs. of torque at 4,500 rpm.
This car has won many trophies, received the Best Paint Award at a Super Chevy event, Best of Show at another event, was featured in Chevy High Performance Magazine (copy & plaque included), and also includes a large binder with restoration pictures and receipts. This investment grade car is in superb shape and is nicely equipped and beautifully presented. You cannot build this car to these standards for this price.
