Description

In 1947, Studebaker completely redesigned the Champion and the Commander, making them the first new cars after World War II. The Champion made up 65.08% of the total sales for the automaker in 1947. The 169.9 cu in I6 engine produced 80 hp in 1947. In 1950, output was increased to 85 hp. One of the new styling features on the cars was the wraparound, "green-house" rear window that was on two-door cars from 1947-1951, at first just an option, in 1950 it was given its own trim line, the Starlight coupe. The "spinner" grill was introduced in 1950, similar to that of a Ford Deluxe, but was dropped again for the 1952 model year. This specific 1947 Studebaker Champion Convertible is a California car that is believed to have been in the state its entire life. Titled as a 1946, this appears to be a very early Champion by the VIN and cowl tag number. With a host of new parts and a newly converted 12 volt system, the car is ready for any road trip or cruise night. The paint is newer and in very good overall condition with no major blemishes. During the repaint, it appears that the car also benefited from a rechrome of the front and rear bumpers and grill. The tan power soft top looks great as well and only shows a few minor stains. The plastic rear window is clear with no discoloration or cracking. Inside, the new tan interior looks great. The seats are nicely finished in a tan vinyl along with the door panels. All of which are in great condition with no wear showing. The carpet is new as well and has been professionally installed. All of the gauges are in good condition along with the steering wheel under the cover. Under the hood, the inline 6 cylinder runs very strong and is connected to the three speed manual transmission. The engine compartment is very clean and in nice, original condition. The car has been converted to a 12 volt system. The mechanicals of the car have been recently gone through which included the fuel system, brakes, battery and gauges. In the trunk, you will find a full size spare as well as tan carpeting. The red wheels with hubcaps and trim rings are a great touch with white wall radials wrapped around them. The underside of the car has never had any undercoating applied and shows just bare metal. This is a true, solid, California car and it shows underneath. VIN number is G293494 and the current mileage shows 16 which is believed to be since the restoration. The car is being sold on a clean California title showing that the previous owner has had the car since February, 2003.
