From the Why didnt I think of that first? file comes this stunning 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix custom. With eyeball-searing paint, pro-touring suspension and brakes, and a built 455 under the hood, its the luxury car that moves like a Corvette. When was the last time you saw a 1969 Grand Prix SJ, let alone one this cool? Usually theyre brown and have someones dad behind the wheel, but this one got a full makeover, with subtly shaved bodywork that makes the paint look like it grew there instead of being sprayed on. Fit and finish are show quality in every way, with an organic look that gives this big coupe the look of a much smaller machine. The color is a three-stage urethane called Sunset Pearl Orange, and until you see it in person, you really cant grasp the depth and shine of the finish and the way it glows from within when you park it out in the sun. All the remaining trim was restored and polished, the glass was tinted dark, and yes, thats a hood tach in front of the driver and HID headlilghts up front. Channeling the 60s, theres a Parchment interior which is plain-old-whites sophisticated brother. With a pearlescent shine that goes with the fancy paint job, its a classic Pontiac color scheme that definitely works in this high-visibility piece of luxury-muscle. A custom center console wraps around the driver, and cool Stewart Warner gauges have been fitted into the original instrument panel in such a way as to make even an expert ask, Did they built it that way or is it custom? A billet steering wheel, A/C with R134a refrigerant, and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo bring it into the 21st century. Even the trunk is getting in on the act with custom black carpeting and a bright orange GP logo on the inner panel. The .030-over 455 under the hood pounds out enough horsepower to make this full-sized luxury coupe move like a GTO, and it has been detailed for show. Finned valve covers, lots of polished aluminum, and an engine block painted to match the bodywork are all traditional custom tricks, and things like an Edelbrock carb and intake build horsepower the old fashioned way. The firewall has been smoothed, the radiator shroud was finished with a cool wrinkle-finish paint, and someone paid a lot of attention to how the wiring and plumbing would look. Its backed by a built TH400 3-speed automatic and a 10-bolt rear full of highway-friendly 3.23 gears. Theres a 13-inch Baer brake disc at each corner, and the front end now features a set of upper and lower control arms and Hotchkiss lowering springs all around. 17-inch Torque Thrusts bridge the gap between yesterday and today and sport 225/50/17 front and huge 275/50/17 rear Falken radials. Admit it: this is just about the coolest Grand Prix youve ever seen. We can also guarantee that its one of the nicest Grand Prixs youll find on the planet.
