’63 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk
America witnessed a legacy of revered modern classic cars from Studebaker, beginning with the Raymond Lowey designed the bold “bullet nose” ‘50 and ’51 models, followed by the ’53 Starlight and Starliner Coupes that would morph into a generation of sporty ’56-‘61 Hawks. Then renowned designer, Brooks Stevens, dressed the last Hawk in a tuxedo creating the Gran Turismo for ’62 – ’64 models, and with its formal roof line and Mercedes smile, is considered among Studebaker aficionados to be the fairest of them all.
Offered is a mostly original 1963 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk featuring the rare Rose Mist exterior color and black vinyl seat covering. Body and interior are in exceptional condition throughout, with no rust, no dents, dings, stains or tears. All chrome, bright metal trim, wheel covers and bumpers are flawless with no pitting or discoloration. Original paint shows some fading and there has been minor cosmetic touch up. There is small paint defect near the driver’s door handle due to an edge guard accessory. Carpet and door panels show normal wear and some fading. Headliner and chrome supports are perfect. Glass all around is exceptional having no chips, cracks or clouding. Tires are 6.70 X 15 Firestone Champion authentic replicas from Coker Tires.
This stunning Hawk is powered by the original meticulously maintained 289 V8 engine (4.7 L) that runs smooth and quiet, does not emit smoke, and is free of any known mechanical or electrical issues. The engine at idle maintains 45 psi oil pressure and 65 psi at road speed. Transmission is 3-speed manual with column shifter. No vibrations or noises are evident in the drive train. The Hill Holder works to original specification. Engine starts easily, car runs smooth, strong and straight. All original gauges are functional. The clock runs intermittently; the original transistor radio does not work. The odometer shows 54,020 believed to actual mileage. Originally delivered Sept 12, 1963, this car has always been garaged, while not in use, over the 49 years of its pampered ownership.
Available with this car is a large inventory of extra parts including a windshield, rear window, rear bumper and a original equipment Tachometer w/sender ready to install. The parts package is bargain priced at $1,000. Pictures and parts inventory list available on request.
This is a car you will love drive, cruising, running errands, motoring in style in parades, going to collector and antique auto shows. It will get a lot of thumbs-up attention, but know you’ll need to be OK with women frequently asking, “what color is that,” and drivers gawking at you in traffic, then zipping down their window to ask questions when you stop. They appreciate the beauty and heritage of this American classic, as will you.
