NEW PRICE! Lovely little restored Model A roadster pickup. Runs great, looks fantastic. A no-issues Model A with original style top.
There’s a tag on the lower seat frame that says this car was restored by a Mr. Keith M. Eichler way back in 1979. The odometer shows just 1550 miles, and given the fantastic condition of the little trucklet today, I have to say that mileage is probably since the restoration was completed. And for 1979, the standards are incredible! Paint is shiny and uniform, and has a wonderful gloss that looks right on the Model A’s bodywork. The black and maroon color combination is traditional and beautiful, although Henry Ford was against reds simply because they were expensive, but Mulberry Maroon was on the color list for 1929. Workmanship is excellent and the truck defies its age with fresh-looking paint, almost no wear or other signs of use, and none of the checking or cracking you often see in older enamel paints. And as is common these days with pickups, the oak bed is finished to furniture-like standards with a coat of varnish on the planks in place of the original black paint. Mr. Eichler, wherever you are, you did one heck of a job on this awesome little truck!
The interior was all new when the restoration was completed and still looks fresh today with almost zero signs of use or wear save for some dirt on the rubber floor mat from our photo session that turned into a monsoon. The hard rubber steering wheel is virtually indestructible and in great shape, and the original gauges are all fully functionalExperts will note that the gas tank reliefs are painted black to match the bodywork, which isn’t technically correct, but it does give the spartan interior a bit of flash and looks great.
Ford’s tough little 200 cubic inch inline-four needs no introduction, and while its specifications may seem modest, performance is bright thanks to lots of low-end torque and snappy throttle response. It starts quickly and easily with just a little choke, and settles into that distinctive Model A idle. All the original components are there, including the factory distributor with flat copper plug leads, original Powerhouse generator, and a rebuilt water pump. Correct hose clamps were used, and the wiring must have been new at the time of restoration. The paint on the engine itself shows some signs of age, which is surely due to long-term storage, but there are no leaks or other issues today thanks to a comprehensive mechanical sorting before it arrived at the VMC facility. Transmission action is light and easy with a quick double-clutch, and thanks to its light curb weight, this Model A stops confidently. Five whitewall tires have been fitted to the straw-colored 21-inch wire wheels, giving the working-class trucklet a bit of upscale appeal.
For me, getting behind the wheel of a Model A is like greeting an old friend, and I suspect many folks in the hobby feel the same way. It’s easy to feel at home in an old Ford, and I’m consistently surprised by how well Henry’s Lady really works in today’s world. Stylish, fun, and surprisingly practical (yes, it works as a real pickup truck), this is a great way to have a ton of fun without spending a fortune. Call us today and we’ll tell you all about this wonderful roadster pickup.
