Your choice of three! Vintage Motor Cars has three excellent Mark VIIIs available, this lovely 1996 Diamond Anniversary edition, a 1997 model (Dark Blue with tan leather, 77,719 miles: $5900), and a 1998 model (Bright Toreador Red with tan leather: $6900).

Of the three we have available, this Diamond Anniversary edition shows the fewest miles and is in the best condition. It’s also quite interesting, representing the final year of the narrow headlight design and is a special edition celebrating 75 years of Lincoln motorcar production. The Cordovan Metallic finish was unique to the 1996 Anniversary models, and looks fantastic on the Mark’s sleek bodywork. In fact, this particular car shows just 63,884 original miles and has obviously always lived its life in the car of someone who knew it was special. There are no signs of rust or accident damage anywhere on the car, including the urethane bumpers. If you’re looking for a really nice one, this is it.

Inside, there’s a special gray and burgundy leather interior, which would complement both the Cordovan and Silver Mist exterior colors that were unique to the Anniversary models. The leather surfaces remain in excellent condition, with only the driver’s seat showing some minor comfort marks, with the back seat and passenger seat looking almost new. The wrap-around instrument panel offers clear, easy to read gauges, a trip computer, automatic climate control, and every power amenity available at the time. Everything is fully functional, the A/C is cold, and this is still a car you can drive every day without compromises. Better yet, a sunroof was standard equipment on the Anniversary models. The trunk is spotless, with a CD changer built in as well as a cargo net and a space-saver spare that’s never been used.

The heart of the Mark VIII was the stunning 4.6 liter DOHC 32-valve V8, a relative of which powered the Mustang Cobra. With 280 effortless horses dancing under the domed hood, it moves the Mark with an uncanny smoothness, and there are few cars that are faster on the roll, even today. The engine bay is spotless, completely original, and totally unmodified. A plastic engine cover (one of the first in the industry) doesn’t give you much to look at, but the basket of snakes intake manifold is visible and hints at the performance underneath. The chassis is also quite clean, and there’s no indication that this car has ever spent any time in the harsh winter weather. Bright chrome directional alloys were part of the Anniversary package, and it currently wears 225/60/16 Michelin MXV4 radials with lots of life left in them.

To be honest, these cars represent a stunning amount of luxury and performance for the price of a 5-year-old Hyundai. Show up in one of these and you’re still a player, and even jaded drivers will be pleasantly surprised by its abilities and cosseting luxury. Heck, even servicing these cars is not terribly expensive now that the Mustang aftermarket has grabbed and embraced the engine. For daily transportation, this is a winner, and for the Lincoln collector looking to round out his collection, this is a fine example. Call today!
