This ultra-slick 1946 Plymouth Special Deluxe coupe has had every trick in the customizers book thrown at it: chopped, shaved, nosed, filled, smoothed, and frenched. The result is a fabulous coupe that will keep people looking, because the list of tricks is exhaustive. Oh, and it drives extremely well, too! The post-war Plymouths were facelifted 42s, sure, but the stylists got the look right and sales were a runaway success. The gently pointed front end was a distinct change from what everyone else was offering, and the details are what made the Mopars special. This cars workmanship is first-rate, keeping all the details and blending them with hot-rodding tricks. The grille has been selectively painted so it looks mostly stock, and the neat curve just below the frenched-in headlights help give the Plymouth its identity. The fenders have been molded into the body, eliminating that ugly seam, and the chopped roof only serves to emphasize the forward-canted B-pillar even more. Most of the stainless trim has been shaved, but what remains has been finished to show standards, and few rods tie it all together as neatly as this one does. Theres not much stock equipment left inside, however. The stunning custom-made dash stands out most, with handsome wood inserts housing the instruments on the drivers side and the glove box on the passengers. A custom lower panel has been upholstered to match the bucket seats and custom center console, neatly tying it all together. Tweed fabric upholstery is durable and comfortable, and stretched over those handsome door panels, it looks upscale and OEM-grade. A/C, power windows, and a tilt/telescoping column with a banjo wheel neatly link the past with the present, and a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo sounds awesome in the heavily insulated cabin. The trunk has been finished to match, with a neat built-in CD changer in the rear bulkhead and enough room for a weeks worth of cruising. The heart of any rod is the engine, and while a 350 isnt all that exotic, topping it with a trio of 2-barrel carburetors offers a nod to the performance past. Theres also plenty of chrome and shiny bits, so opening the hood at a show should be considered mandatory. Extra care went into the build, hiding the plumbing out of sight as much as possible. A heavy-duty cooling system with electric fan ensures that the engine stays happy even on the hottest days, and a custom exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers is aggressive without being tiring on long cruises. The chassis has been painted to match the body, with satin black floors providing the ideal background. A 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission is linked to a Ford 9-inch rear, so cruising is effortless. Vintage-looking aluminum wheels with Plymouth centercaps (a nice touch!) wear staggered 195/70/15 front and 225/70/15 rear Goodyear rubber. This is a no-compromises rod that aims a little out of the mainstream to deliver something truly special. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
