1956 CHEVY BEL AIR CONVERTIBLE IN BEAUTIFUL FACTORY COLOR COMBINATION WITH MATCHING NUMBERS 265 V8 AND VERY RARE DEALER INSTALLED CONTINENTAL KIT THAT IS ABSOLUTELY TURN-KEY AND READY TO GO ANYWHERE! SHARP CRUISER THAT WILL BE A LOT OF FUN FOR COLLECTOR OR ENTHUSIAST. This Bel Air has been owned by a nice older couple in Indiana. They had owned the convertible for nearly 15 years as a tribute to the car they took out on their first date. They purchased the car at the old Kruse International auction in Auburn over Labor Day weekend in 1998. Today, the odometer reads 93,000 miles but has most likely turned over. It is a correct VIN number prefix: VC' and Data Plate Style number: 1067D', indicating a true Bel Air Convertible. The car looks and performs very well. It is not perfect, but a very nice driver that shows very well in public and parades. An independent company was commissioned to inspect the vehicle and there is a fairly long YouTube video of it that points out all their findings, including a test drive. You can view it at this link: The interior is overall in EXCELLENT condition. Several pieces of chrome and brighwork on the dash have been replaced with new components. All interior painted surfaces in the interior appear to be original and non-restored. The upholstery, Code 603, Turquoise-Ivory Vinyl, as well as carpeting and door panels have all been professionally replaced by reputable upholstery shop around the late 1990s. There are no known rips, tears or damage to the seats. The radio has been upgraded to a Chevy Bow-Tie cassette player with under-seat speakers. This system is currently non-functional. The trunk compartment has been outfitted with a replacement rubber mat, which covers an older mat that is glued fast down to the trunk pan. The pan appears to be quite solid, with the exception of the spare tire well, which has had a prior repair. The drive train and everything under the hood appears to be very original and presentable. The motor is a 265 cubic inch V-8 engine suffix code F' and is MATCHING NUMBERS with 8.0:1 compression version rated at 170 horsepower fed by a 2-barrel carburetor. It runs extremely well and starts easily and without hesitation. The Powerglide automatic transmission seems to function properly without any issues. The brakes are also in great shape as they have recently been professionally inspected and adjusted. A new fuel pump, distributor cap, rotor and plug wires have been installed. The heater core was removed and inspected and is again functional with a new control unit and cables. The radiator is a brand new aluminum Griffin unit that has been painted to appear original. The original unit with tags from the car is still available and included with the car. All other drive train and suspension components are believed to be the originals. There is no power steering or power brakes, but the car is easy to drive and maneuver (just like when new). The frame and all components on the underside appear to be original in appearance. The floor pans have some rust, and in my opinion, need replaced, but usable as-is for now. There does not appear to be any collision or structural damage or repair that I have found. The tires are vintage BF Goodrich Silvertown wide white 6.70-15 4-ply units. No date code. Almost all tread is still there! I have driven the car on the Interstate safely without worry at about 60-65 MPH several times on the way to local cruise night or car show The paint and glass. The body panels are quite straight and the panel gaps are likely on par with the original alignment. The doors, hood and trunk shut well with little effort. The paint, Code 710, India Ivory-Twilight Turquoise, was probably applied prior to the last owners purchase (15+ years old now). However, the paint presents exceedingly well for the age and has only minor defects. It is bright, clean and smooth. There are a few tiny areas that have been chipped and touched up. At a local show it would do very well as it attracts a great deal of attention wherever we take it. The stainless trim is original and in pretty good shape and only has minor blems. The chrome shows well. The bumpers have likely been rechromed-replaced as well as most exterior emblems and chrome trim. In the back, the continental kit appears to be original to the car, and looks to house an original spare tire (no longer safe to use). The top is overall presentable and functional. It has no rips or damage, but has slightly shrunk. The back window is still there and clear but could use a new zipper. The top goes up and down well, but slowly.
