This important original "HILLEGASS" Sprint car was built in 1949, by Hiram Hillegass, at his shop in Allentown, PA. It was originally fitted with a 6 cylinder Ford engine and raced unsuccessfully for the first season. By 1950, the car had a new owner that wanted to win races. He had the HILLEGASS re-powered with a brand new state of the art HAL DOHC full race engine. Unlike most "HAL" powered Sprint cars, this one had the full "HAL" engine, which included the "HAL" five main bearing block and bottom end. It won races up and down the east coast until being retired in the late 1950's. Later on the car was discovered in the same area that it began (eastern PA) and was completely restored to show standards. It is an AACA national senior 1st prize winner. It was also on display at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing, for sometime. Legendary driver's such as "Shorty McAndrews", Earl Horn, and Lou Johnson raced this very car in the late 40's and up into the 1950's. It has been restored to 1956 specifications. There can't be a better example of this era historic Sprint car out there. Restored to perfection and preserved beautifully!
