Description

The 60s was the age of the muscle car! Well this 1960 Ford Starliner might not be your Mustang or Camaro but you certainly cant count it out. These cars packed a punch and drive very well. In addition to the powerful drive train they had very unique body lines that really make them stand out. This classic is coated in red from the front tip all the way to the horizontal tailfins. Running the entire length of the car is trim which is all very nicely mounted in place. It has a great shine and is dent/ding free. The bumpers are all nicely chromed and are in great condition. The glass is all nice and clear with no scratches or issues. All of the exterior electrical works just as it should with dual headlights and nice taillights. The car rides on a set of original style painted to match wheels with polished hubcaps. To get a little more history on the classic Starliner check out the following article from howstuffworks.com: The 1960-1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner & Sunliner were the raciest of Fords bigger-than-ever early-1960s big cars. The all-new 1960s Galaxies were some six inches longer, almost five inches wider, and nearly 200 pounds heavier. Graceful styling helped hide the heft, however with a sloped hood, simple grille, straight A-pillars, clean chrome-edged fenderlines, and modest horizontal tailfins (nodding to Chevys 1959 batwings). The 1960 Ford Galaxie Sunliner convertible, part of the 1960-1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner & Sunliner series Sunliner again led the top-line Galaxie group, but the Starliner was a real surprise: a pillarless semi-fastback two-door hardtop replacing 1959s highly popular square-roof version. It looked ready to race and did. It also sold well, though evidently not well enough to suit Ford. A conventional hardtop coupe was reinstated for 1961, and Starliner sales nose-dived the model would not return. All 1961 standard Fords (a needed new distinction with the advent of compacts) were slightly shorter and lighter, and tastefully made over with a concave grille, reshaped hood, more rounded bodysides, and a return to large round tail lamps. Ford began moving toward Total Performance in these years with 1960s Interceptor 360 version of the 352 V-8, then with 1961s enlarged 390 big-block offering up to 401 bhp. Both were very low-volume options, making them very desirable today. As are 1960-1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner & Sunliner, which are finally getting the collector notice they deserve. Pluses of the 1960-1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner & Sunliner: Ample club support Big and spacious Lush ride Moving up strongly in value Smooth V-8 powerteams Still fairly inexpensive, but growing in popularity Swoopy styling Minuses of the 1960-1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner & Sunliner: Good-condition originals not plentiful Some trim and body parts scarce now Still in-betweeners with less value appreciation potential than some earlier and later big Fords Production of the 1960 Ford Galaxie Starliner & Sunliner: Starliner hardtop coupe: 68,461 Sunliner convertible: 44,762 Production of the 1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner & Sunliner: Starliner hardtop coupe: 29,669 Sunliner convertible: 44,614 Specifications of the 1960-1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner & Sunliner: Wheelbase, inches: 119.0 Length, inches: 213.7 (1960), 209.8 (1961) Weight, pounds: 3,617-3,791 Price, new: $2,599-$2,860 (U.S.) Under the hood is a 390 c.i. 375 horsepower motor that runs extremely well. It has plenty of power and no issues. The six pack 3x2 barrel carburetors are all cleanly mounted and fully adjusted for a nice smooth idle. The engine is actually from 1961 and is accented with vintage Gold Thunderbird 390 valve covers. This is a hydraulic lifter motor that is all original. All of this is backed by the 3 speed overdrive transmission that shifts like new. The interior of the car is all original and done in a matching Red. The upholstery is in great condition and the bench seats are very comfortable. The dash has a great style with all the original components. The emblems, knobs, switches, and trim are just like they would have been from the factory. Mounted to the floor is a very cool polished INDY shifter handle topped with a Red 3 ball shifter handle. The only aftermarket appearing component is the added tachometer but there is a good chance even that was how it would be cruising around in the 60s. The trunk is cleanly finished out with a plaid original style floor mat and the matching red spare wheel. This is a cool vintage classic that you will rarely see. You may park next to 5 other Mustangs and 6 other Camaros at your next show, but you will be the only Starliner! Get this classic while its still available at only $48,720.00! NOW REDUCED DOWN TO $46,750.00!!
