Description

A heavily redesigned Firebird debuted in 1979, and it turns out that the Formula was the rarest of the bunch during that record-setting year. This particular Formula offers the K-code 403 cubic inch V8, an awesome black-on-black color scheme, and just two owners from new. Nice car doesnt even begin to cover this one. With new front and rear fascias, the Firebird looked radically different in 1979, and sales prove that it was a popular look. On this Formula, it appears that the lovely black paint is factory original, not a repaint, and with that being the case, the preservation is downright astounding. Of course, all the sheetmetal is original and completely untouched by rust or accident, and the way it fits together is the way it was when it left the factory 33 years ago. The Formula was pitched as a more sophisticated, upscale model, and without the Trans Ams showy graphics package, it is a bit less ostentatious, but only just. There are bright red tape stripes, a familiar ducktail spoiler out back, and faux ram air ducts on the hood that actually look pretty cool. Like I said, the preservation is remarkable. Inside, its the same story, with a very nicely preserved black bucket seat interior. Even the drivers seat, which sees the most use, is almost like new with no scuffs or wear on the side bolsters. Perhaps the door panels show a few minor signs of age, but things like the carpet and headliner look fantastic, and the dash pad has zero evidence of UV damage or cracking. Pontiacs racy engine-turned dashboard looks great here, as it does in the Trans Am, and is full of useful, easy-to-read gauges that work as they should. The lone upgrade inside is a Kenwood AM/FM/cassette stereo that fits neatly in the original radios slot. Youll also note that this car has factory A/C, which blows cold-a nice upgrade and mandatory on a car from down south. The spotless trunk even includes the original space-saver spare and inflator bottle, as well as a complete jack assembly. An Oldsmobile-built 403 cubic inch V8 was part of the deal when you specified an automatic transmission, but this one is definitely not from your fathers Oldsmobile. Fortified with goodies from Edelbrock, it runs beautifully with a fat torque curve that moves the Formula effortlessly. Wearing Pontiac Turquoise paint, it looks right at home in the Birds engine bay and the overall condition is impressive. There are a lot of fresh parts, and everything works as it should. A true dual exhaust system uncorks some horsepower and gives it a proper high-performance voice and the floors are completely rust-free. Handsome Pontiac Rallye II wheels wear newer 235/60/15 BFGoodrich radials. These cars are seeing some action in the market, and the less common Formula is a neat alternative to the Trans Am with equal performance. With lots of maintenance records and a 2-owner history, you can buy this one with confidence. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
