The best rods are those that embrace modern technology. Anyone can take a tired 350, drop a carburetor on top, park a 3-speed automatic behind it and hit the road, but it takes ingenuity to build a rod with fuel injection, a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, and a fully independent suspension. This 34 Ford runs like a Corvette. This slick Corvette Yellow Ford roadster is an all-steel body with a fiberglass trunk lid, and nothing captures the go-fast vibe of a salt flats racer like a fenderless 34. Original trim pieces like the cowl lights, scroll-like door handles, and a plain radiator cap give it an authentic feel, while modern paint makes it look like a million bucks. And this is one of the few rods that looks as good with the top up as it does with the top down. The bumblebee logo on the firewall isnt by accident, as the black interior makes the theme work. Late-model buckets have been custom upholstered in black fabric, and the 34s passenger compartment is surprisingly roomy. Simple black door panels have an embossed flame element, and an elegant wood window sill that warms up the interior quite nicely. Gorgeous gauges by Classic Instruments offer a vintage font and fit neatly in a billet insert that matches the original instrument panels shape. A tilt column with a banjo-style wheel makes it easy to get comfortable, and the billet shifter falls easily to hand. A vintage heater is a nice addition in a car without windows, and the powerful AM/FM/CD stereo system does an admirable job when youre not listening to the music of the side pipes. For performance these days, its hard to beat an LS1. With all-aluminum construction and a firing order that gives it a highly unique voice, its the rod engine of the future. Kudos to the builder for keeping it fuel injected, and even the distributorless ignition system is intact. A massive aluminum radiator with an electric fan keeps it cool, and a set of ceramic-coated long-tube headers dump into those gorgeous side pipes and really let the LS1 sing. The front suspension uses upper and lower A-arms with coilovers, while the rear suspension is a C4 Corvette setup, and theres a disc brake at each corner. A traditional big-n-little tire combination gets a modern spin using 17-inch Eagle alloys wearing modern rubber.
