One of 25 left drives ever built, this 36,155 mile factory air-conditioned specimen was first acquired by us in 1997 in entirely original, near mint 35,183 mile condition aside from a high quality respray in Regal Red lacquer after having won its share of RROC awards. It was originally delivered October 31, 1963 by the Beverly Hills, California franchisee finished in Porcelain White with Black top and hides. There was absolutely no evidence of any collision damage or previous corrosion, not surprising considering its history. The books and tools were and still are complete.
The automobile was resold to its third owner later that year with only 36,093 miles traveled and a decision was made to return the exterior to its original shade and to complement it with White Connolly hides piped Black to match the carpets and mohair roof. Radford derived cocktail cabinetry as in LSCX247, the ex-Kurt Juergens Silver Cloud III Drophead was incorporated. The restoration was completed in 1999 and the car remained as a static display, virtually unused.
We were fortunate enough to recapture this exceptional specimen in early November 2008. Aside from some minor imperfections to the finish which have since been dealt with and our usual thorough preparation and servicing of the mechanical aspects including adjustment of the springs for proper ride height and the installation of a high torque starter, relatively little attention was required to bring it to its present state.
Since the most recent refurbishment, it captured 2nd in Class honors at the 2009 Boca Raton Concours d' Elegance (against a Pebble Beach winning 1935 Mercedes Benz 540K Special Cabriolet- no embarrassment there!!) and more recently was chosen Best Postwar Drophead at the Greenwich, Connecticut Concours against some very worthy competition.
The very enthusiastic collector to whom it was resold later in 2009, after capturing a Best of Show Award in California against a 400 car field has fortunately (for us) allowed us to reacquire it once again. We believe it is by far the best of necessarily few genuine left drive examples (beware of counterfeits) available anywhere in the world, regardless of price. It is a delightful performer, worthy of addition to anyone's stable.
