This is one of the rarest and most desirable 1973 Mustang Convertibles surviving today. This car is a well-documented low mileage true survivor. This car has most of the available options for this year and model. It has the original 351 Q-Code engine that runs great, air conditioning (works but needs recharged), convenience group, instrumentation group, dual color keyed racing mirrors, AM/FM stereo, exterior decor group, staggered shocks, appearance protection group, power steering, power top, power brakes, tinted glass and rear bumper guards. It also has a full center console and a rim blow steering wheel, but I do not think these options where on the car when it left the factory. The car drives very nice.
It has the original bright red exterior with white interior -- the most sought after color combination. The car is gorgeous -- and rare. There were only 85 bright red exterior/white knit interior cobra jet convertibles made in 1973. (The Marti Report is included in the pictures) This is surely one of the few surviving. This car has probably always been stored inside and I doubt it has ever seen winters but I cannot say for sure. The paint is gorgeous with only one small blemish near the rear tail light and a tiny near-imperceptible ding in the top of the front left fender (If I did not mention it you may not know it is there.) The original top is in great condition and it has the original parade boot. Interior is in very good condition except small tear on right door armrest and driver seat shows minor wear. Along the way a prior owner (who I met at a car show), added "351" emblems to the front fenders, but they could be removed.
It will be hard to find a car as well documented as this one. The prior owner bought it from Tony Betten Ford in Grand Rapids Michigan in 1995, where it sat on the showroom floor. It was the personal toy of the owner of the dealership. I met him when I took the car to the annual Mustang car show held at the Betten dealership. He recognized the car immediately. I have all the sale papers from the dealership that document the mileage and other information when the prior owner bought it in 1995. The odometer disclosure statement is included in the pictures. I have blacked-out the prior owner's last name for privacy but will provide it to serious buyers. It is very rare to find sale documents from a Ford dealer on a classic mustang. Ford dealers rarely sale used classic cars -- much less one owned by the dealer owner. This is not an “auction car” that has been sold countless times over the years. In fact, I have the names of the last three people who owned it over the last approx. 35 years. I also have also included in the pictures a letter I received directly from Ford Motor Company that confirms the authenticity of the car.
I have looked at countless Mustangs for sale over the years and this is up there with some of the best. But keep in mind that this is a forty-year-old unrestored car (perhaps one repaint). It is sold as-is. All bidders are encouraged to inspect before bidding. I would be happy to show it to any potential buyer. I have the Marti reports. I have met three prior owners and can share some stories about how they took care of it, etc. Call 419-930-8254 and ask for Charles.
