Description

Poised and unpretentious is this beautiful 1955 Studebaker Commander Deluxe 16G8 Series 2-door post coupe. Until recently the Studebaker brand has been left alone in the collector car hobby. But that is changing with good-looking cars like this. Powered by a numbers matching 259.16cid V-8 with Stromberg dual downdraft carburetor and coupled to a strong Borg Warner 3-speed automatic transmission, will push this car down the road. Power to the rear wheels comes from a factory original 3.31:1 gear set. With a relatively new paint, this Encino Cream top over Alpena Blue looks - give it a 9/10. You be the judge on this paint job. With a single stage urethane process it is difficult to tell. With a brand new light blue over medium blue interior this car looks showroom new. Speaking of showroom new this beauty only has 78000 miles on the clock. The engine just received a complete tune with new valve seals, a re-built carburetor, hoses, etc. All new - 1300-mile tires mounted on fresh looking steel wheels, fresh hubcaps and trim rings. Car Collector in the late eighties called Studebakers like this Postwar Collectables. They went on to say that Studebaker brand is one of those marques that have timeless designs. That they were a force to be reckoned with. Innovative and highly competitive, the company brought the best engineers and designers available at the time to launch itself into the postwar era. New car brochures of this era proclaimed them as The new American cars with a European look! With Detroit cars of the era getting very expensive and parts becoming scarcer, this is one 50s era car to consider. Because the Studebaker brothers were planners many parts were used for many model years. An example is the stampings for the fenders were used from 1953 to 1964. Reliability plays a part too. Mr. Kettering, who designed many of GMs engines, also designed these engines but he designed them to last. Instead of using timing chains he used the gear-driven concept. Just oil them and they will last up to 300000 miles. In addition they had planned on producing up to 120000 cars a year but in many cases only 60000 to 70000 copies were produced. Thousands of NOS parts are available today, including chrome trim parts. If you are looking to adding to your postwar collection or just getting into the hobby and being a part of great American iron, please take the time to come see this car. You will not be disappointed. Where else can you get this much 1950s era iron for this little money? Then subtract 78000 miles from 300000 miles which what I am hearing from other Studebaker owners and you have a good investment. This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
