I believe this is the best, most original 280SL on the planet. Many people think they have a 40 plus year old car that is still wearing its original paint but sadly most are wrong. They went by what someone else told them and the myth was propagated. The same applies to low miles on older cars with 5 digit odometers. Unless you are dealing with the original owner who is honest, still has a good memory and/or the seller has absolutely air-tight service records with no gaps usually these cars have some multiple of 100,000 miles plus whatever is showing on the odometer. Also, old speedometers have the propensity to break a plastic internal gear which stops the odometer form registering for years and years and years. Also, look at the number of cars advertised as all original, just restored, which is a statement that is clearly an oxymoron. Many sellers don't really mean original when they say original. What they mean is stock or the car is in as original condition(whether they are or not). I use the term original in the strictest sense meaning that this car has all parts, paint and materials that it left the factory with 40 years ago. This does not extend to parts that get replaced for maintenance purposes (filters, brake pads, light bulbs, hoses, drive belts, tires, etc.) however the spare tire is absolutely original to this car. Indeed, many items considered as maintenance items are still original to this car such as the date coded Metzler fuel injection air hose and the trunk weather seal which are impossible to fake. The soft top, usually replaced several times already on a car this age is original. All of the numbers match, the front fenders have the original and famous notches, the nuts and bolts under the car still have the paint splotch dotollogy assembly marks. All of the factory undercoating is intact as well as the root beer colored Cosmoline waxy coating on top of the undercoat. The body number is repeated everywhere it is supposed to be and with this car we have discovered items where it is written in grease pencil behind some of the upholstery panels, behind the glove box and on the bottoms of the rear jump seat panels (kinderseat). This motorcar should go to a senior collector who is fanatical about originality although like most all of our cars it has been gone through in our award winning workshop to assure that it is 100% turnkey so that it can be pressed into service as a daily driver if the new owner so chooses. There are many, many more photos of this car, its component parts and more information on our website. Viewing this cars detailed photos is like reading a Pagoda Originality Buyers Guide as it is absolutely what these cars are supposed to look like.
