1965 Chrysler Newport
Very rare 1965 Chrysler Newport. First year edition and only made in the last half. Has a mopar 383 V-8 2barrel carb.
I am 4th owner of the car. I bought it from one of my salesmen 15 years ago. The car has never been wrecked and all body parts are original all American steel. The following is everything I know to disclose both good and bad. NO SECRETS. I have over $17,000 in this beautiful ride. As you will read, not all was productive but spent none-the-less. I am asking $14,900.
Improvements to the car; -replaced the 3 core radiator with new- not reconditioned. -replaced gas tank with new- not reconditioned -tore out old interior and ground out the floor boards and trunk. Anywhere the metal was thin, we cut and welded new flooring then sprayed with bedliner before adding the carpet. -has new hand stitched vinyl seats, door panels, tire cover and trunk storage compartment doors. -trunk storage was added on both sides of the trunk to keep the tools and fluids separated and from rolling around. -had the car sanded, primed and repainted from the original eggwhite to a classy two tone champagne gold. - added a new side mirror as the original was pickled -all chrome is original -fender skirts are original -wheels are the original 14 with reverse lug post on the drivers side -hubcaps are original as well -dash, door handles, steering wheel and all glass is all original -has new set of tires (less than 100 miles) on it -has new 6X9 speakers in the back dash -has new weather stripping on all doors and trunk -has all new brakes -has new battery -has new radiator cap -has new fuel filter
Sadly I have some less than fortunate news as well. I think all older cars do, much like people in their late 40s, a couple of good stories have been accumulated.
Right after I bought it, I took it to a recommended shop to have the oil pan seal replaced. There, the shop owner said it would be best to have the engine seals done as well. He sent the block off to a shop in another town. A week later I got a call to go get my car because he was running from the law and going to Panama. I never found my original block. I had to buy a new engine (rebuilt). When the engine was put in, all parts were individually painted and put back together. Engine has less than two hundred miles on it.
Not working: A/C system not working Odomitor is not connected. Dash guages are not connected radio is not connected to antenna or speakers Two of the letters on the back gas cover were torn off in an automatic car wash. The fuel line needs to be replaced The exaust needs to be replaced
In summary, Im married and it has come down to me finishig this beautiful american classic or buying my wife a new home. For better or for worse or until all your dreams are gone Kelly Blue Book does not justify the joy of ownership with this classic land yacht. You will be the next and hopefully not last owner.
Oh, one last thought......People have asked me for years, what is it again? followed closely with... why did you buy that? The answers are simple. Its a 1965 Chrysler Newport and I bought it because of all the classic cars you know of you dont know of one person that has one of these !!!!! RARE !!!! Got it ???
