Description

VIDEO IS A MUST SEE, PLEASE VIEW VIDEO FOR FULL DETAILS ON THIS MUST HAVE MUSTANG - 1968 Mustang GT/CS (California Special) Engineered by Shelby Automotive - In 1967 Lee iacocca wanted to produce a special Mustang just for the California market. For this project he tapped the services of Carroll Shelby of Shelby Automotive to develop the California Special. Production began on Feb 17, 1968 with all cars being built at Fords San Jose California assembly plant. (also the manufacture of the 68 Shelby) By the end of the model year, Ford sold 4118 California Specials. Today there are approx 1800 left, and of those only a handful are of show quality. Therefore it is highly sought after collectors car and widely recognized for its uniqueness. Unlike the 1966 High Country Special the California Special is not likely to be mistaken for a typical Mustang.
Featured - Up front, special Lucas Fog lamps sat within a blackened out grille opening. All California Specials used the deluxe hood with integrated turn signal lamps and special hood locks. From the side a quarter-panel side scoop added a muscular look with a side strips including a GT/CS logo exiting the scoop. Finishing off the side was California Special emblem located at the rear portion of the quarter panel. The rear end was perhaps the most aggressive showing the Shelby influence using the same 1965 T-Bird taillight, quarter panel extensions and built in spoiler used on Shelby vehicles. All GT/CS cars were given a GT styled pop off gas cap with GT emblem. Engine options ranged from a low performance six cylinder to the stump pulling 428 cubic inch V8 Cobra jet engine. Customers could order a three speed manual, 4 speed manual or an auto transmission. Typical options included air conditioning, power steering, power brakes an a list of other comfort features. With the prices of Shelby Cobras Shelby GT350 and GT500 setting new world records at auctions how much longer do you think it will take the Shelby GT/CS to be discovered? Please call 724-396-6875
