Following its launch in 1953, the Corvette matured rapidly over its first generation. The first major update came in 1955 when GM finally had a V8 prepared for the car. A major redesign in 1957 dramatically improved the car's handling, and 1958 brought quad headlamps and a new dashboard with instruments repositioned ahead of the driver. By 1961, the C1 generation was just about ready to be replaced, yet GM still had the wherewithal to update the car's rear-end styling with a dramatic “boat tail” design that nicely led into 1963's release of the second-generation "C2" Corvette. A reduction in transmission tunnel size gained more interior space, increasing comfort.

The marvelous 1961 Chevrolet Corvette fuel-injected roadster featured here is finished in classic Roman Red over a Black interior and matching black folding convertible top. The example offered here is believed to be one of only 1,462 models built for 1961 with the 315-horsepower, 283-cubic-inch V8 equipped with Rochester Ram Jet fuel injection (RPO 354) and a four-speed manual transmission. This car features the more potent of the two fuel-injected motors, making it the most powerful factory engine option for 1961. This exquisite motorcar received a frame-off restoration to show quality standards and is among one of the finest examples we've had the pleasure of offering in years. Accompanying this investment-grade Corvette "Fuelie" roadster are its owner's manual, restoration receipts, service records, and spare tire. We are proud to offer what we believe to be one of the finest 661 fuel-injected Corvettes on the market today; offered to the most demanding collector investor or enthusiasts who desire to own one of the very best!
