For Sale: 1966 Pontiac GTO in Concord, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

This 1966 Pontiac GTO tribute convertible has plenty of V8 power, fantastic/classic details, and a fabulous metallic sparkle that radiates this drop-top in the sunshine. It is one of the most appealing ways to enjoy a classic convertible.

Pontiac gave the premium LeMans plenty of style, so upgrading it to a GTO is not hard. But we all know if you miss some key areas. So it's nice to see this is done correctly in places like the hood scoop and exclusive tail light panel. Form-fitting chrome bumpers and full rocker trim make for some attractive brightwork. But on this unique convertible, the paint is the true radiant star. The blue has an impressive amount of metallic embedded deep into the finish. So when the light hits it, this convertible can make some bass boats jealous. The kind of upgrade shows this is a tribute car made to be driven. So it never gets too fancy like a museum piece, but it sure knows how to have a presence out on the road. And those American Racing wheels are even made to look like classic mag wheels from the 1960s, but they are modern 17-inch alloys that hold some of the best modern sport tires.

The black convertible top looks good in place, and with the flip of a switch, it powers down to reveal the full black interior. So, there is an appealing color package with or without the roof. The full package has a vintage style, right down to the classic wood-like trim and AM radio that's still there for display. And we especially love the driver-oriented setup. You have classic pieces, like the front bucket seats, a center console, and sporty round gauges with a large tach. There are also worthwhile upgrades, like the under-dash auxiliary readouts and a Hurst His & Hers dual-gate shifter.

Pontiac's 400 cubic-inch V8 was part of the first-gen GTO, but not in the '66, so having this upgrade is already quite a nice benefit. It's attractive thanks to the classic blue block and overall tidy setup. This V8 is the heart of what makes this GTO tribute such an appealing driver. It's upgraded for power with an Edelbrock AVS2 four-barrel carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and headers feeding into the dual exhaust. There are also suitable supporting components, like a BeCool aluminum radiator, fabricated valve covers, and a complete MSD ignition system. This mighty motor fires up eagerly, and the three-speed automatic transmission is a stout TH400 unit, so you can adequately utilize the dual-gate shifter if you like. There's also power steering, power brakes, and upgraded front discs with drilled & slotted rotors.

We like the flair and power that comes with this special GTO tribute. And there may be some details you want to address, like the radio, heat, or tail lights. As it currently sits, this is not the car you will want to put mirrors underneath. The frame has been reinforced and repaired. We have photos to share if you like. But when you start with an overall package made to be a genuinely memorable drop-top cruiser, you know you've already fallen in love with this one. Call now!
