Gateway Classic Cars of Atlanta is proud to present this 1966
Volkswagen Beetle. The Volkswagen Beetle-officially the Volkswagen
Type 1, informally in German der Kfer (meaning "beetle"), in parts
of the English-speaking world the Bug, and known by many other
nicknames in other languages-is a two-door, rear-engine economy
car. The original concept behind the first Volkswagen, the company,
and its name is the notion of a people's car - a car affordable and
practical enough for common people to own. Hence the name, which is
literally "people's car" in German. The largest change to date for
the Beetle was in 1965: the majority of the body stampings were
revised, which allowed for significantly larger windows. The result
was a more open, airy, modern look. For 1966, the big news was an
optional new 1300cc 50 HP engine in lieu of the previous 1200cc
engine that had been the sole engine since 1954. Models so equipped
carried a "1300" badge on the engine lid. The 1300cc engine was
standard for North America. This particular 1966 was built for the
European market where it was sold new and driven until being
imported to the US in 2005. Powering this Beetle is the infamous
1300cc Air Cooled Flat Four backed by a 4-Speed Manual
Transmission. This Beetle is finished in the factory Sea Blue
paint, believed to be original, matched with an equally original
and very clean Cloth Interior. Options on this Euro Spec '66 Beetle
include: Gray Cloth Interior, Hub Caps, Radial Tires, and
Seatbelts. The consignor states that the mileage is original and
the vehicle comes with factory literature and some documents
including import documents, but we are unable to verify true
mileage. This 1966 Volkswagen Beetle runs like a top, is stunningly
original, and as close to what a new Beetle must have been like to
drive! Remember... they're only original once!
