For Sale: 2001 Ford F250 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

2001 Ford F250 Super Duty 4x2 Short Bed Pickup

Though not intended as commuter cars, F250's and work trucks in general have come a long way since their early days. Simply looking through the inventory of work trucks at Classic Auto Mall is like a living history lesson and study of how things have changed over the years. Case in point, the interior of modern trucks, no longer utilitarian in design and function, and more akin to a luxury car or nicely optioned commuter. Owners will not be lacking creature comforts even as they slog through mud and snow while towing a trailer.

For consignment, a 2001 Ford F250 Super Duty 2 wheel driver that according to the consignor states has never been driven in snow and has been garage kept! In fact, this truck has been meticulously maintained with oil changes, fuel filter changes, and a number of newer items. All that AND it sports the 7.3 liter Powerstroke Turbo Diesel, the desired torque monster for hauling and towing.

Exterior
Bright Amber Pearl Metallic shines bright on the outside of this truck, evidence that the owner not only took care of mechanics, but also appearance. This truck was one of the earliest consumer trucks with the massive front vertical grille and it is impressive. The chrome is in great shape, the headlight lenses look new, and the tow hooks look unused. The truck has a long profile with full size rear doors. A perfectly matched Leer rear cap gives the vehicle monster truck proportions and plenty of covered cargo space. Wide running boards get you up to the cab which is held up high by 16-inch wheels wrapped in 75 series tires and suspension that keeps things above the rock line. Towing mirrors assure you can see beyond the trailer and are part of the black accents seen throughout the exterior. The tan pinstripe is a nice touch on an exterior that's in great shape. The only flaw we note is a small dent on the rear fender near the bumper. The bed has obvious signs of use only visible when the tailgate is open.

Interior
Step into a bit of luxury as Ford's efforts to make molded plastic and faux wood welcoming seem to work. Familiar toggles on the door used across the Ford line for many years. The parchment colored leather bucket front seats sit high and the driver's seat has various electric adjustments and heat, as well as some manual controls. We note some wear on the driver's seat, but no major damage. The seats have individual armrests and a large storage bin between them. The full sized leather bench in the back provides lots of leg room and head room where three average sized adults can sit comfortably. The standard steering wheel has controls for cruise control and the basic gauge package includes the most pertinent of analog readouts. The center stack has the stock AM/FM/CD radio and climate controls. The low pile tan carpet and headliner, along with the overall condition of this truck, belie its 166,392 miles. This was clearly pampered.

Drivetrain
The top dog option for the F250 was the 7.3 liter Powerstroke diesel and it's under the hood fueled by electronic fuel injection. The 4R100 4-speed automatic transmission was replaced at 67,000 miles and feeds power to the rear wheels only where 3.73 gears await the rotational torque. Power disc brakes are equipped at both ends. The engine bay looks clean and dry and better than average. Our consignor informs us that battery is two years old.

Undercarriage
Some minor surface rust throughout but overall, incredible condition for an East coast truck of this vintage and use. Snow and salt wreak havoc on undersides and this one supports the consignor's claims of not being driven in snow. We've seen undersides with the mileage in much worse shape. The truck is equipped with a single exhaust that exits in the right rear. Independent twin I-beam suspension is found up front with leaf springs in the rear. Wenote that the ball joints have been replaced recently and an alignment was performed. The tires have an early 2022 date code and were replaced about 2,000 miles ago.

Drive-Ability
The interior is not a complete departure from a Lightning of the same era but way, way higher up! The commanding view and clearance must have been very tempting when it snowed, but the 2WD probably quashed any hopes of having fun in the white stuff. And the next owner will benefit from these choices as the truck runs great, has plenty of grunt, and is about as comfortable as you can be. It's a sizable beast and those giant side mirrors really do help with visibility, just be conscious of the elephant ears when pulling into the garage, as we were.

This truck has a lot of love to give and plenty of life left. It's probably in the top 10% of trucks of this era in terms of care and cleanliness and that makes it a rare find. We can't wait to see what this consignor brings us next because we love representing vehicles that are more than just a way to get from point A to point B. This one, you can tell, meant a little more to the previous owner. Who's next?
