Vehicle Description
2003 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
The C5 Corvette was a game changer because it improved on the
progressively rounder C4 and created a sleeker car with more power,
better fuel economy, and more driver-focused ergonomics. Magnetic
Selective Ride Control was standard on 1SC equipped anniversary
editions and most other 2003 models. The successful run of the C5
went from 1997 through the 2004 model year with more than 30,000
units produced each year.
For consignment, a spectacular, low-mileage 2003 Corvette Coupe
with all the right ingredients. A title verified 5,105 actual
miles, a 6-speed manual, head's up display and a relatively rare
color for 2003. This car is straight, clean, and barely broken
in.
Exterior
Only 967 coupes, (8% of coupe production), were painted Electron
Blue Metallic in 2003 and this is one of them. The wide and low
front end with its hidden headlights and narrow horizontal grille
is sporty and aggressive. There is no mistaking this look when one
is coming up behind you on the highway. The side gills set the
stage for body contours that extend past the door. The chrome
5-spoke wheels are in excellent condition and so is the paint, we
were hard pressed to find any flaws. The side mirrors and flush
door handles are body colored and the rear valance, topped by those
epic four tail lights, is wide and aggressive. The air foils and
quad tailpipes at the bottom create a stunning visual and auditory
delight. The glass targa top is in place and the consignor states
that an Electron Blue top also comes with the car. This option of
dual roofs was reserved for just 5,184 of the 12,812 coupes in
2003.
Interior
Since not all 967 blue Corvettes had Light Gray interiors in 2003,
and only 1,511 total coupes did, the combination of Electron Blue
and Light Gray is likely well below the 967. And may we say, it is
a fantastic spec. The molded plastic doors are black on top and
gray on the bottom and controls are canted to fit the wrist. The
gray leather sport bucket seats are in super shape with straight
stitched inserts and firm side bolstering. The thick black steering
wheel looks factory fresh, and the standard gauge package is clear
and easy to read with no unnecessary extras. The car is equipped
with a heads-up display which shows illuminated information
seemingly floating at the bottom of the raked windshield, allowing
drivers to keep their eyes forward. For those who prefer the analog
read out, the heads-up can be toggled off. The standard AM/FM/CD
radio is in the center stack along with the heat and AC controls.
Everything is housed in molded black plastic. The standard shifter
is booted in black leather and is in showroom condition. An active
handling button and 50thanniversary crest are found on the center
console as well. The gray low pile carpet is perfect and protected
by gray Corvette carpeted mats. The back hatch area houses the
extra top and is covered in near pristine gray carpet.
Drivetrain
Power comes from a 5.7 liter LS1 V8 rated at 345 horsepower. It is
fed copious amounts of air and fuel via electronic fuel injected,
and this potent mill is tied to a Tremec T56 6-speed fun stick.
3.42 gears with Positraction are found in the back and power disc
brakes are found all around. The engine bay, like the rest of the
car, is in showroom like condition with no alterations.
Undercarriage
Five thousand miles wasn't enough to get the underside dirty and as
such, it's darn clean. Our consignor notes Z06 dual exhaust has
been added and is the only modification to the car with four chrome
tips exiting from the center. The suspension consists of
independent unequal lengthdouble wishboneswithtransverse fiberglass
monoleaf springsand optionalmagnetorheological dampers. To improve
handling and weight distribution, Chevy put an integrated transaxle
in the back, and this can be seen from under the car.
Drive-Ability
No surprises on our short jaunt around the test loop. The car has
amazing acceleration, incredible handling, and the cabin is a very
nice place to be. Some people prefer the heart pounding impact of
red interiors, but some of us prefer the calm, cool surroundings of
gray tones. This '03 sounds great and tracks well and this is one
we could definitely live with. All functions operate as
intended.
Not to be forward, but may we suggest some vanity plates? BLUBYU,
BLUVETT, 1OF967, MYBLUC5, BLUGRAY. Of course, you can toss these
ideas in the trash, but do not throw away the idea of purchasing an
essentially new 2003 C5 Corvette. This is a stunner.
