For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1968 Chevrolet Camaro Hardtop

At Classic Auto Mall, we have the good fortune to host Camaro Nationals each year, and this year will be the 25thnational meet. Mark July 19 and 20 on your calendar as this is an event no Camaro lover should miss. Now, if you're in need of a Camaro, we have plenty to choose from at the Mall and recently received this beautiful 1968 with many attractive attributes. Jerry MacNeish, Camaro guru, has graced our Hallowed Halls and we've also interviewed Camaro expert and author Frank Incremona on the Classic Auto Mall podcast. So, yeah, we love Camaros!

For consignment, a 1968 hardtop with a big block under the hood and many upgrades from factory items. No one likes to mess with perfection, but the aftermarket resources for this generation Camaros can make them safer, faster, louder, and more enjoyable to pilot. This car hails from Texas where, like most parts of California, the climate is dry and prevents rust from developing.

Exterior
Bathed in Burgundy Metallic, the exterior is enhanced by black rally stripes that travel over the cowl hood, truck deck and spoiler. This is picked up beautifully by the black grille, headlight bezels, and black trimmed tail lights. The chrome bumpers and metalwork on the car are all excellent. Its stance is enhanced by the 18-inch US Mag wheels with argent spokes and chrome barrels. The car sits perhaps a bit higher than it would from the factory and overall the gaps are well minded, and the paint shows very good overall. We do note a single gap that is wider than spec along with a few minor imperfections in the paint. We see hints of traction bars and larger exhaust peeking from underneath the car. More on that soon.

Interior
Standard black vinyl door panels greet us with window crank, door actuator, and armrest/pull handle intact and looking fresh. Picture perfect black vinyl low back bucket seats in stock configuration and design occupy the front and this carries over to the rear bench. The three spoke wood rimmed steering wheel also looks great and gives up a piece of column to a small AutoMeter tachometer. The rest of the dash looks stock with two large encircled gauges, including the speedometer and gas gauge flanking the column. Wood applique backs the center stack which houses the heater controls, a later model AM/FM/Cassette radio, and added water temp and oil pressure gauges underneath. Black gloss paint covers the remainder of the dash in front of the passenger. A Hurst shifter with white ball knob looks right at home on the floor surrounded by a rubber boot and metal frame. The black loop carpet is excellent, as is the headliner. The trunk is bare and is solid.

Drivetrain
A period-correct 454ci V8 rocks the engine bay and is fed by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor perched on an Edelbrock intake manifold. This is all tied to a period correct Muncie M21 4-speed manual sending power to a 12 bolt rear axle. The engine bay is show quality with chrome valve covers, brake booster, and air cleaner element, stainless headers, and it's all just clean, clean, clean. Power disc brakes all around are like icing on the cake!

Undercarriage
More operating room-like cleanliness underneath as the 2.5" stainless dual exhaust finds its way to an X-intersection, then splits off, meeting Pypes mufflers, then snaking over the axle to exit modestly behind the rear wheels. Red brake calipers pop some color into the undercarriage and so does the orange oil pan, where we notice just a drop of oil. New springs are found in the front independent suspension and the rear leaf springs are enhanced by Caltrac traction bars. The black frame and floorboards are excellent and clean and there's no rust to speak of.

Drive-Ability
The car sounds beautiful at idle after we lit the 454 cuber up. Into gear we went and on to the loop where the car pulled hard and stopped on a dime. We found everything worked as it should and our window cranking skills are some of the best in the business working at Classic Auto Mall. The car drove smoothly and turned nicely. We didn't test wheel hop with the Caltracs but can anticipate a solid launch in this well equipped car.

A basic Camaro with great paint, awesome wheels, a monster engine, and a spotless interior. What more could you ask for? Enhanced suspension? Check. Disc brakes? Roger that. Gauges to monitor things? Yep. It's the total package and it's spotless. We're going to have hundreds of Camaro people here in a few months. If this one interests you, pull the trigger today and make the phone call. It won't last and we don't say that very often with any confidence.
