Vehicle Description
1968 Chevrolet Camaro SSDo you have the skills to handle this much
American muscle? In 1968 this original SS Camaro was purchased in
North East, PA with the intention of driving it 1/4 mile at a time.
He immediately voided the factory warranty, modifying reinforcing
where necessary to make a wicked drag-racing machine. Little did he
know at the time that this was only the first chapter in the story
of this Camaro.During its drag-racing years it was sold once; the
third current owner picked it up from a family member and hoped to
restore it. Finding contact with the original owner, he was able to
gather original parts taken off in the late 60's. Altogether the
restoration took three years; stripped down into individual pieces
and cleaned, painted or replaced.Hoping to strike a balance between
modern engineering and respect for the classic nature of American
muscle, this restoration incorporates the perfect amount of
technology to make the car a pleasure to drive on a daily basis.
Dakota Digital was given the original odometer from when they
adjusted the digital gauge to reflect the car's real mileage. There
are only 19,800 original miles on this car and the original gauge
cluster is included in the sale.Since the restoration was completed
the car has added less than 1,000 miles. The car was cleaned
thoroughly before leaving and after returning from each cruise.
This meticulous care maintains an immaculate, showroom
appearance.Underneath the hood is a 2007 Z06 LS7 dyno-tuned to
500whp by Trevor Hutter and a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual with a
McLeod clutch. It has Hutter Race Engines CNC ported heads and
competition cam. The front suspension is from Ridetech with
True-Turn for larger wheels, and the rear is a 4-link from
Ridetech. A Currie fabricated 9' rear end with 4:10 gears is built
with power in mind, a fan favorite for drag-racing. Billet
Specialties wheels lay down the rubber, 18x9 in the front and 18x11
in the rear. Custom 4' mini-tubs in the rear made room for the
tires.. but what made room for the tubs? The original backseat
rails were modified such that the seats still fit with the 4' tubs.
GM fuel injectors work with a Holley fuel pump and Holley
Terminator to keep the beast firing in sequence. A Griffen radiator
with an electric fan provides the cooling for all that power. The
electronics are connected with an American Auto wire harness.Need
to pump the brakes? Willwood 6-piston front brakes are a premium
choice for their performance, 4-piston Willwoods round out the
rear. Vintage air A/C blows cold, and you'll be surprised to see
that although the gauge cluster has been modernized, the original
dashboard is still present. Still think you can handle it? Come see
it in person. The sale includes a folder with a lifetime of photos,
dozens of receipts and documents for the various parts and services
throughout the restoration process.*CARFAX CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED USED
