Vehicle Description
Are you looking to go back in time 30 years? Are you ready to find
out if it will do 88 mph? Are you Doctor Emmett Brown? For all of
you "Back to the Future" fans out there, we have another DeLorean
DMC-12 available. Same onwer past 14 years with copy of origianl
window sticker. Car was stored for several years.
This example was made in November 1981 in Dunmurry Northern Ireland
and was shipped to the United States through Wilmington, Delaware
and then to Coggin Pontiac in Jacksonville, Florida.
As all of the other DeLoreans, this one is dressed in a
stainless-steel exterior with gray front and rear caps. The
bodywork is solid, the frunk is clean, the bumpers fit tightly to
the body and the engine bay is tidy. This car has a new windshield,
new rear louvers and tires among many other new parts.
This DeLorean rolls on Maxxis MA-202 radials, size 195/60R14 in
front and 235/60R15 in back. Each tire is mounted to a standard
factory alloy wheel. The wheels are in good, original order while
the tires are new.
Out back is a 2.8L V-6 engine from Renault-Peugeot-Volvo. This
engine has a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, a 90-degree
layout with a light-alloy block with cast iron cylinder liners and
light-alloy heads with cross-flow hemi-chambers. It is cooled by a
front-mounted radiator with twin-thermostatically controlled
electric cooling fans. It breathes via dual exhausts and tends to
smoke at startup. These PRVs were a development of the 2.7-litre V6
used in the Renault 30 that were designed and built under special
contract with the DeLorean Motor Company.
Backing this motor is a five-speed manual transmission and a 3.44:1
rear end. Driver conveniences features include air-conditioning
which is inop, power windows, power locks, power sideview mirrors,
power rack-and-pinion steering, power-assisted four-wheel brakes,
tilt and telescopic steering wheel and four-wheel independent
suspension. Fuel gauge inop.
Inside, the car has new gray leather seat covers. The gray carpet
and headliner look good. There is a three-spoke steering wheel. The
dashboard and inner door panels are all in satisfactory shape, as
is the center console and shift lever. In the center console is a
JVC AM/FM stereo with cassette deck.
Competition to this DeLorean in 1982 included Chevrolet's Corvette
and Datsun's 280Z.
