Melanson Motors is proud to offer this painstakingly restored 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback. This is a very special, award winning car, with only 300 test miles! Restored by Cleveland Design in New Brunswick Canada, no detail was overlooked. This Mustang was built to be both an incredible driver and an absolute show piece. It recently took three awards at the 2023 Radical SpeedSport Expo including The Best Restoration of Show, SpeedSport First Place in its Class Award, and The ISCA Hagerty Award for Outstanding Display. This is the most perfect car we have seen in a long time! However, this Mustang isn’t just for show. A performance built 289ci engine producing 400hp is mated to a 5-Speed Tremec transmission. The rear end is a Ford 8 inch with 3.50 gears. The car drives excellent and sounds amazing!
At Melanson Motors, we have had some cars with incredible paint over the years, but this car is at another level. The car was painted with PPG 2015 Bullitt Green paint and five coats of clear. The white stripes are painted on and perfectly seamless. It was then water sanded and polished to perfection. A high quality ceramic coating covers every inch of the paint. The car is straight as an arrow, and the reflection is so clear it was actually difficult to photograph. The restoration started with a San Jose California built car stored in a bubble for the last 25 years. Every panel on this car is original Henry Ford steel, with the exception of the brand new steel Shelby style hood with steel intake cowl. The lower portions of the car including the bottoms of the fenders, bottoms of the doors, rocker panels, and bottoms of the rear quarters have been covered in Paint Protection Film to avoid rock chips while enjoying this car. All exterior chrome and stainless is new and beautiful. Underneath, the original floors were blasted and coated in black Lizard Skin coating. Every nut, bolt, bushing, brake and fuel line is new. All suspension components were restored.
Inside, the interior is all new. The seat frames were disassembled, sandblasted and repainted black. New foam and seat covers were used on reassembly. The carpet, door panels, headliner, and dash are new and perfect. The gauge cluster is a Classic Instruments. It works perfectly and looks excellent. Every screw and piece of hardware is new. The entire floor was covered in sound deadener before being covered up with carpet. All the wiring is brand new American Autowire harness. An original radio sits in the dash for a proper look. However, in the trunk there is an amplifier with a Rockford RCA Bluetooth Adapter. Music can be played via Bluetooth from your phone. Kicker speakers have been fitted front and rear in such a way, you hardly notice they are there. A subwoofer sits neatly in the trunk. The stereo system sounds amazing!
Under the hood, this Mustang has a wicked 289 professionally built by Central Auto Parts in Fredricton. The engine was balanced and blueprinted. It is a complete roller setup with a Bullet Racing camshaft. It also has Edelbrock aluminum heads and Edelbrock aluminum intake. The aluminum heads were painted Ford blue for a clean look. The engine is tuned with Holley Sniper fuel injection. The car starts and runs flawlessly and without hesitation. Ceramic coated chrome headers and dual exhaust give this Mustang a great sound. The transmission is a brand new Tremec TKO 5 speed. The 8 inch rear end has new 3.50 gears and this car rides amazing down the highway.
The car drives on brand new 15 inch Shelby GT500 style 10-spoke alloy wheels. The wheels are wrapped in brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. A complete Borgeson power steering upgrade has been installed and the car has all new power disc brakes up front. It steers and stops like it’s on rails!
