This is a K-code Hi-Po Mustang restored as a Shelby Hertz GT350H
tribute. The K in the VIN # designates the high performance 289-271
hp motor. All Shelbys had the K and a limited number of non Shelbys
K cars were also available to the public. This is one of those rare
cars! Did you know you could rent a Shelby through Hertz? That's
what this represents with these colors, Hertz center caps and the H
after G.T. 350.
EXTERIOR: Shelby features include the scooped hood, scoops on the
quarter panels and this one even has the plexiglass windows in
place of the quarter louvers. The body is in great shape, the
fiberglass hood is a little wavy. Painted Raven Black with the
Hertz gold racing stripes. It is polished to a smooth high gloss
finish. Minor imperfections if you look for them. Overall, the
chrome and trim is shiny including the bullet mirrors and GT 350
gas cap and emblem. Reproduction Magnum 500 wheels have the Hertz
center caps and they're wrapped in BFGoodrich tires.
INTERIOR: It's very nicely restored and even has a reproduction
Shelby steering wheel and the tachometer mounted on top of the
dash. Racing lap belts in front, regular belts in back. Even though
it's a 5-speed, it has the original style shifter. The carpet, door
panels, armrests, seat upholstery, cushions and headliner were
replaced. Reproduction Pony mats on the floor.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: This is a genuine K code Hi-Po 289. Casting
#C5AE 6015-E, dated 1966. It has an aluminum Shelby intake, dual
feed Holley carb, MSD ignition and stainless headers. It is dressed
in Cobra valve covers and the open element chrome air cleaner The
engine bay is fresh looking and proper right down to the windshield
washer bag.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It's clean and complete with a mat, jack and
spare.
UNDERSIDE: The front end steering and suspension looks like it's
been all rebuilt. Upgraded with Koni gas shocks and tubular
traction bars. The brakes have been redone; it has disc in front,
new brake lines, e-brake is hooked up. The fuel system's been
replaced including the tank and sending unit. It has a nice dual
exhaust system with turned down tips. Looking up at the motor it
has a extra capacity aluminum finned oil pan. Upgraded with a
5-speed transmission. A custom drive shaft goes back to a Ford 9-in
rearend. Floors and frame rails appear to be very clean solid
metal.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and fixed the reverse lights, dash
lights and high beams. We fixed the temp gauge and oil pressure
gauge, replaced front lower control arm bushing, lubed the driver
window track, and adjusted the e-brake.
So you understand, this is a real HiPo K code car which is what the
Shelbys were. The Hertz Shelby package was added really at no cost
to you! A K-code sells for what we are asking. Real GT350H cars
have sold for over $400,000!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to
assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are
answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video
that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are
displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an
appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment
there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car,
your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year
membership.
