Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1950 Chevrolet Styleline
Deluxe Convertible. This is a lovely example that has remained with
the same Georgia owner, a well-known gallerist and art collector,
since 2004. Restored in 2002 and with known ownership history
dating back to the 1980s, the car presents to a good driver
standard inside and out. Paint and body are excellent although the
chrome and trim have developed some patina and light pitting with
age. The canvas convertible top and leatherette boot cover are in
good condition. The hydraulic drive mechanism is inoperable (the
top must be manually raised and lowered). It's presented in a
tasteful and attractive color combination of Moonlight Cream over a
two-tone burgundy and tan interior (the color is original to the
car and correct to the cowl tag).
Under the hood is a 235 cubic inch overhead valve straight
six-cylinder engine mated to a three-speed column-shift manual
transmission. This car underwent a full cosmetic and mechanical
restoration, fully documented with photos, in 2002 and it still
runs and drives nicely. Clutch, gearbox and shift linkage feel
good. This car tracks straight and stops straight. The engine
starts easily, runs smoothly and provides ample power throughout
the rev range. Factory wheels are wearing wide whitewall Coker
Classic tubeless radial tires for a correct appearance (but better
handling than bias ply tires).
This is certainly a rare car - Chevrolet produced nearly 1.4
million passenger cars in 1950, but only 32,000 were convertibles.
Roadworthy examples are difficult to find today. This classic
convertible offers a ton of style for the money and attracts
considerable positive attention wherever it goes. Factory service
manual, records dating back to the 1980s and several dozen photos
of the restoration are included with the sale. For more information
