For Sale: 1968 Plymouth GTX in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

1 of only 327 made 440 4-speeds made! Even better yet, it's a factory red with white interior car. Original fender tag is attached to the car. It was treated to a rotisserie restoration in 2012 by the person I acquired it from.

EXTERIOR: Factory Performance Red car wearing a black hood patch and white side stripes. The body is excellent, straight and there's no signs of rust or damage even after 12 years of being finished. Repainted its original performance red color and it's wearing the black hood patch and white side stripes. It has a very smooth glossy finish with just a few minor imperfections. The grill and tail panel are very good original condition, the bumpers were replated. Optional fender turn signals. In the video is said the lenses were cracked, they are not. Correct white Mopar grain power convertible top. Some 15 inch Torque Thrust wheels with meaty radial tires were added to make it a better driver.

INTERIOR: Factory born with a white interior. The door panels and armrests were replaced. The dash area is very nice, not abused or altered. It has a factory tachometer in the dash and original AM radio and it's correct location. Down on the floor it has good red carpets and original 4-speed console in nice shape. Seats have been reupholstered. Interior lights work throughout.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Correct date coded 440ci with correct 906 heads, correct intake and exhaust manifolds. Correct Carburetor, original wiper motor, fan radiator and shroud. Bored 30 over new pistons, cam, rebuilt heads making about 500 hp, I'm told it's fast! Reproduction plug wires, chromed factory valve covers and correctly restored air cleaner. All the components look clean. The washer bottle is hooked up, wiper motor looks new, horns are in place, has hood insulation. Correct Mopar radiator, cap and shroud. 2 very desirable features include power steering and power brakes. The original fender tag is still in place.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The trunk lid is painted slick, inside is clean metal painted red. It has a new mat and weatherstrip. There is a jack assembly but no spare.

UNDERSIDE: Underneath is extra clean. The floors are such nice metal that they were painted gloss red. Frame rails were neatly welded in to prevent body twist when hammering through the gears. The H.D. suspension is all rebuilt. The rear leaf springs, shackles, and shocks were rebuilt. The 4 wheel drum brakes were restored, new parking brake lines. The gas tank still looks like new, and new lines and pump were routed nicely. The dual exhaust was custom built with Cherry Bomb mufflers and correct oval tips out the rear. Looking up at the motor it still looks fresh and has a high torque starter. The correct dated 4-speed trans is also clean. Everything's powered through its original Dana 60 rear end with 3.54 Sure Grip gears and a chrome cover. It's really impressive underneath this car!

SERVICE: We inspected the car and installed a choke, set the carb and timing. We fixed reverse lights, turn signals, wipers, and seat track. We installed new glovebox latch and liner, front shocks, rear license plate bracket, pillar rubber and right inner tie rod. We lubed the speedometer cable, gave it a front end alignment, adjusted the driver door, adjusted windows and adjusted e-brake cables.

Rare and desirable! That is the winning combination. 327 made, how many exist? How many have power steering and brakes? How many red with white? I'm sure this is the only one.

A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum.
