Classic Car Addict is excited to present this awesome 1966 Ford
Fairlane GT for sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. In 1966, Ford's
Fairlane could truly be called "all new." Totally re-engineered and
redesigned, its body lines were less angular and more gracefully
contoured than ever before. Styling alterations included stacked
headlamps, curved side window glass, and a semi fastback roofline.
Ford also introduced two new models in '66: the 500XL and the GT.
Both were available as hardtops and, for the first time in the
Fairlane line, as convertibles.
With plenty of external flash to identify the first
time-in-an-intermediate 390 big-block that was stuffed under the
hood, the GT model was designed to be the Fairlane line's
high-profile performance machine. To authenticate a Fairlane GT,
the fifth digit in the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) will be
the letter "S," to indicate the 390 V8. Equipped with the optional
automatic transmission, the GT model became a GTA.
The cabin is trimmed in ivy gold metallic with new black door
panels, new black carpeting as well as a new black headliner. The
Fairlane features all new Dakota Digital Gauges, and new Vintage
A/C. You can tell that the interior was a quality investment. The
glass is in good condition as well as the chrome molding.
Finished in Ivy Gold Metallic, the paint is in good condition. It
was recently resprayed, but as you can see from the photos, there
are a few burn marks and some bleeding. The GTA trim included
simulated hood louvers, badging, GTA plaques on the front fenders
and deck lid, and a series of stripes just above the rocker
panels.
The heart of the GTA 's performance is the 390 cubic-inch V8. It
has a tidy presentation that lets you see all the nice details.
Mounted on the manifold, is a Holley 4-barrel carb and covering the
carb is the chrome-topped low restriction air cleaner. This is the
auto trans options that put the "A" in the GTA models nametag. The
V8 sounds fabulous regardless of the rev range.
