Wow, check this out a factory born black with white interior
Mustang! Stunning and rare color combo. Not to mention it's a D
code four barrel 289 V8 car that has factory air conditioning and
power steering along with upgraded power disc brakes. This is a
very early Mustang known as a 64 1/2 which has some unique
characteristics. Mustang production started in March; this one was
born April 30th. An 84 year old man owned it 40 years!
EXTERIOR: The body is clean! Black paint doesn't hide anything and
fortunately this body has nothing to hide. It is straight as an
arrow; I don't see any rust or damage. It fits nicely, doors shut
like new. It's repainted its factory Raven Black, the original door
tag has paint code A. It is polished like a mirror, there are a few
minor imperfections you would have to look for. Overall the chrome
and trim is shiny and straight. The radial tires look new and are
wearing wire wheel hubcaps with spinners.
INTERIOR: It is a factory white interior, code 46 on the trim tag.
It looks to be in great shape: the seats have been recushioned and
upholstered. The door panels, armrests, carpet were replaced. The
headliner and visors are in excellent shape. In front of me is a
new dash pad, new steering wheel and a custom set of white face
gauges including a tachometer. There is a retro stereo in the
factory hole. Below the dash is the Ford a/c unit and an optional
center console.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: There is a D in the VIN designating a 289 V8
with a 4 barrel carb. It was rebuilt and upgraded with an Edelbrock
carb and new distributor. It's a factory air conditioned car, the
system has been restored. Factory power steering, upgraded power
brake system with a dual reservoir master cylinder. Upgraded
aluminum radiator. Overall clean and complete. Unique to an early
64 1/2 is a generator instead of an alternator, vents in the
radiator support by the battery and a larger horn.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It has been completely lined wall to wall with
carpet. The spare tire even as a carpeted cover.
UNDERSIDE: The steering and suspension components look like they've
been replaced. The power steering control valve looks brand new. It
has new shocks in back. GT dual exhaust goes out through the rear
valance with the stainless tips. This car has been upgraded with
disc brakes in front, e-brake is hooked up. Looking up at the motor
it's clean, it has a correct canister fuel pump, and the starter
looks fresh. The C-4 automatic trans was rebuilt. The floors all
appear to be original and solid.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and tightened the steering wheel,
relocated an air duct, repaired the speedometer and replaced the
brake light switch.
This is a really special car. I couldn't decide what to highlight
first: amazing factory colors, the great list of options or the
fact it's a 64 1/2. Any one of those makes it a desirable car, all
3 added together makes this a really desirable car!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to
assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are
answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video
that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are
displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an
appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment
there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car,
your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year
membership.
