Vehicle Description
One of only 6,052 manufactured for the 1987 model year, this 1987
Chevrolet Monte Carlo Aero Coupe was initially designed to be more
aerodynamically efficient for high-speed NASCAR racing. The large
rear glass slopes backward to create a semi-fastback. The car was
very successful on the track, and a street version was marketed in
1986 and 1987 for NASCAR homologation, much to the joy of NASCAR
fans. This Aero Coupe has air conditioning, tilt steering, cruise
control, cloth reclining bucket seats, color-keyed dual sport
mirrors, AM/FM stereo, and instrumentation with a 120-mph
speedometer. This rare SS/Aero Coupe also has specific trim,
striping, body, and aluminum alloy sport wheels with BF Goodrich
Radial T/A raised white letter tires. This would be the final year
for the rear-wheel drive "G" body. Originally equipped with a 305
cubic engine, this Aero Coupe has been upgraded with a powerful 383
stroker engine featuring 383 callouts on the red valve covers and a
matching air cleaner. Additional under-hood upgrades include
polished aluminum heads, a hi-rise aluminum intake manifold, a
Holley carburetor, and a March-style pully system with a chrome
alternator, power steering, and an AC compressor. Headers with
electric cut-outs give the car a gnarly sound through dual exhaust
with Flowmasters that can be quieted down if desired. Power is
delivered to the rear wheel with a 700R4 automatic transmission to
a Ford 3.89 Quick Performance 9-inch 31 spline Trac-Loc rear end.
Suspension enhancements include tubular front control arms,
upgraded rear trailing arms with sway bar, updated springs, and
Bilstein shocks. Additionally, there are power disc brakes on all
four corners. The car includes a copy of the original window
sticker, owner's manual, and a binder with receipts and photos.
