2002 Ford Thunderbird
Car History
The Ford Thunderbird is a rear wheel drive automobile which was
manufactured by Ford in the United States over eleven model
generations from 1955 through 2005. The Thunderbird created a
market niche that eventually became known as the personal luxury
car.
In 2002-2005, production of the Thunderbird ran again, returning to
the original formula for the Thunderbird, the latest version had a
two-seat coupe/convertible layout like the first-generation
Thunderbird and retro-futuristic styling to match.
The white 2002 Ford Thunderbird we have at Skyway Classics was the
first year made of these classics. The eleventh generation
Thunderbird was built at Ford's Wixom Assembly Plant and was based
on the company's DEW98 platform, which was shared with the Lincoln
LS and Jaguar S-Type.

Mechanical
The sole engine of the Thunderbird was a Jaguar-designed AJ-30 3.9
L DOHC V8, a short-stroke variant of the Jaguar AJ-26 4.0 L V8,
making 252 horsepower and 267 lbft of torque. The engine was mated
to Ford's 5R55N 5-speed automatic transmission.
Ours has all the factory parts including the Thunderbird V8 logo
air cleaner assembly and sits in a very clean and detailed engine
compartment and looks as new.
Power gets to the ground on chrome Ford Factory Mag Wheels and
performance black sidewall tires as the exhaust makes a great sound
as it exits out the rear thru duals and dual tips.
Interior
Though the Thunderbird's interior styling was unique relative to
its platform mates, the instrument panel, steering wheel and other
trim pieces are borrowed from Lincoln LS.
It has a great retro Thunderbird black twin high-back bucket sear
interior package with matching door panels and console, shift knob,
a full dash with the factory gauges, and steering-wheel, with all
power options and an automatic transmission.
The interior has high-quality materials, thoughtful color accents,
retro-look gauge cluster, real aluminum trim, not aluma-look
plastic. The steering column, instrumentation, and center stack are
even borrowed from the LS Lincoln.
Exterior
Our T-Bird looks great with the factory Thunderbird White paint job
over the body including the fenders and with its black convertible
top. You will love the look of the top as it does remind you of the
50's TBirds.
The low hood scoop and long sweeps of the fenders make for lovely
scenery out the chrome-ringed and radically curved windshield.
Conclusion
The 2002 Ford Thunderbird we have here at Adventure Classics looks
so good, from the chrome "Thunderbird" script to the rear tail
lights, the Thunderbird looks dramatic.
Its appeal is as a stylish boulevard cruiser. This is the coolest
ride Ford has created since the original Mustang.
