Vehicle Description
Ever wondered what a Volvo P1800 would look like as a Corvette?
Wonder no more as we have an answer here at MotoeXotica Classic
Cars.
Built in May 1992 at General Motors' Bowling Green, Kentucky
factory, this donor Corvette has been rebodied into a larger Volvo
P1800 Coupe. Reportedly from a previous seller:
"It is a complete 1992 Corvette and a complete 1967 Volvo 1800
[that] were the starting point for this professionally constructed
custom car. The body panels of the Corvette were modified and
replaced with the Volvo 1800 body parts to create a vehicle that
appears to be a modern-looking Volvo 1800 but with all the
amenities of a modern vehicle. This car is a Corvette that looks
very much like a custom Volvo 1800. It is titled and licensed as a
1992 Corvette."
The bodywork is a mix of metal or fiberglass and is in overall very
good condition with minor defects. The bodywork is straight and
solid. It eschews the Corvette's revolving headlamps and nose with
foglights for the Volvo's round headlights and stretched oval
grille. The front fenders and hood are forward-hinged to gain
access to the engine. The doors are a mix of Corvette above the
beltline with the windows and sideview mirrors and Volvo below the
beltline, with the Volvo door hardware and lower panels. In back
are the Volvo's tailfins, rear window, trunk and taillights plus
its chrome bumper. The Corvette's rear hatch has been replaced by
the Volvo's rear side windows.
This combination of cars rolls on a mix of General Altimax radials
in front, size 255/45ZR17 and Avon Tech M500 radials in back, size
275/40ZR17. Each radial is mounted to a five-spoke alloy wheel. The
wheels and tires are all in very good order.
Under that big hood, it's all Corvette - a 5.7L LT1 Generation II
V-8 engine that has 16 valves and multi-port fuel injection.
Backing this motor is a four-speed automatic transmission (code
4L60E). Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power
rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, cruise
control, tilt steering column, power windows, power locks, power
sideview mirrors and rear window defroster.
Safety features include dual front airbags and anti-lock
brakes.
Inside, the black leather interior is all Corvette. The bucket
seats are in satisfactory shape while the carpet and headliner look
great. A four-wheel steering wheel faces the driver. The dashboard
and inner door panels are in satisfactory order. The center console
and console-mounted shifter are in good, original order. A Delco
AM/FM stereo rounds out the interior.
