1968 PONTIAC GTO 4435-TPA Pontiac drastically redesigned the 1968
GTO with a new shorter 112-inch wheelbase for the 2-door models and
the fashionable long hood-short deck treatment. The 1968 Pontiac
GTO received hidden headlights and an energy absorbing body-colored
polyurethane front bumper. Motor Trend presented the Pontiac GTO
with the Car of the Year Award in 1968 stating, "Not only does it
continue to establish the class standard in the fifth year of its
existence, but it also represents a unique and revolutionary
engineering/styling function." Even today, the 1968 GTO continues
to impress with such examples as this Solar Red coupe.
This 1968 GTO was delivered new to Smith-Johnson Pontiac in East
Point, GA, where it was purchased by Mr. Lewis Estes of Atlanta in
October of 1968. This GTO was purchased from the original owner who
sold it to the current owner when the car was only six months old.
A comprehensive body-off restoration was performed in 1996. Since
then, it has been driven sparingly and garage kept. Restored to
preserve its authenticity, it is finished in the correct Solar Red
color with a matching red interior that remains highly original and
sympathetically restored where necessary. This is a very
well-equipped Pontiac with great options, including the highly
desirable hideaway headlights (not currently working), factory
installed air conditioning, His & Her Hurst shifter, hood mounted
tachometer, front disc brakes and 14-inch Rally ll wheels with
correct black PMD center caps and Pontiac exclusive black center
lug nuts.

presents beautifully and retains its correct engine color and
factory original chrome valve covers and air cleaner with chrome
lid. The undercarriage showcases the Solar Red body colored floor
pans that contrasts wonderfully against the highly detailed chassis
and suspension components. An impressive amount of documentation
accompanies the car that includes the original owner's and warranty
manuals, factory shop manual, Pontiac sales brochure, original
owner identification & new warranty and the coveted factory
Protect-O-Plate. Additionally, the car is further documented with
the copy of the build sheet and other authenticating paperwork
sourced form Pontiac Historical Services (PHS). This exciting 1968
