Vehicle Description
1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H Tribute
At Classic Auto Mall we see our share of Mustangs, good bad and
special. But with prices of documented collector cars and serious
pro-touring builds climbing faster than the Saturn V rocket launch,
owning a piece of six-figure Detroit muscle can be stressful.
That's why the smart enthusiast who likes driving and enjoying his
hardware buys a slick, fully-sorted weekend cruiser like a tribute
car. Enjoyable, stress free and no one is really the wiser, and
anyone who is, do they really care??
For consignment this 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350-H tribute. This
car is the beneficiary of a frame off restoration where it was
transformed into this tribute version of the Hertz rental available
in 1966. All sorted out and completely rebuilt with plenty of
attention to detail, you can be rolling around in a skate that will
be the envy of the rink!
Exterior
Its frame off restoration began with hours working its steel panels
into a completely straight and well minded gap body. Then a smooth
and glossy coat of Raven Black urethane was adorned with metallic
gold stripes, sealed in a durable clear coat shell, and accented
with correctly stenciled "G.T. 350 H" side stripes. Leading the way
at the front edge, a stainless, Shelby style grille hangs pristine
horizontal bars between two louvered bezel headlights, a great
looking chrome bumper and a front valance that's complete with
chrome trimmed parking lights. At the top of that grille, a
traditional metal hood, which is secured by chromed metal pins,
sports a Shelby hood scoop. And at the top of the car, like-new
windows trimmed in stainless. Satin finished wipers and chrome drip
rails which are just perfection are at the top edge of the roof. A
hockey stick cove has an intake vent on the rear quarter and some
gills that roll downward with the B pillar and graceful glass. The
trunk is pure '65 'Stang as it has the gold stripes and rolls into
the rear with the iconic trio of outward Veed lenses on thecorners.
Another perfectly preserved rear bumper is on with shiny
bumperettes and deep bezeled backup lights. 15-inch Magnum 500
wheels are wrapped in 215/60R15 fronts an 225/60R15 rears, all
raised white letter BFG Radial T/A's
Interior
Entree vous if you will past pure '65 Mustang styling for the door
panels that have some smooth and some tuck and roll black vinyl and
are expertly crafted for the entry to a completely satisfying
driving environment. Inside pristine low back buckets with more
tuck and roll black vinyl and smooth bolsters grab you and beg you
to sit in them. A rear 2 plus 2 beckons the same as the front. On
the hump is a Hurst shifter reaching for the driver. All this in a
sea of nice black carpeting all fade free and ready to curl your
toes up into. You sit in the driver's seat and reach forward out a
wood rimmed, drilled 3 post rally wheel atop the factory column.
Gauges are the standard fare Mustang horizontal speedometer and
circle gauges on the edges under a padded black dual eyebrow dash
top. The radio has been removed and the glovebox was signed by
Carroll Shelby, (as every one has... he signed everything!). Above
is a slightly textured black vinyl headliner. Turn the key!
Drivetrain
A bit of snake bite has been added to this 289ci V8 which is
correct for this non Shelby car. It has an Edelbrock Performer RPM
intake and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. A 4-speed manual
transmission is on back along with a Ford 8 inch rear axle. Headers
and a Flowmaster muffler system is now in. Looking just snazzy
under this hood with ribbed cast valve coverings and aluminum
radiator, supple hoses and like new wiring.
Undercarriage
This car cannot quit when it comes to showing off and it will not
let the topside get away without a visual fight. All undercoated
and black paint and mostly road dirt free. New suspension which is
front independent coil springs and rear leaf springs. Drum braking
is all around.
Drive-Ability
This car fired right up and I have to admit sounds just great. It
ran as good as it sounded with neck snapping acceleration and the
panic stopping proved to be good as we nearly hit a fellow sales
associate on a similar test drive near the exit to the test track!
Sheesh!
A fine example and a fine perforce on the transformation of this
tribute car to the Hertz/Ford Mustang collaboration to see sell
sell, and this one definitely will!!
