This 1987 Porsche 959 "Komfort" emerges not just as a car, but as a
thundering statement of power, speed, and technological wizardry.
Equipped with twin-turbos this all-wheel-drive marvel was Porsche's
answer to the call for the fastest street-legal production car.
With its aerodynamically sculpted body and a heart that beats with
a twin-turbo flat-six engine, this 959 was the envy of every car on
the road. This was Porsche flexing its muscles, showing off what it
could do when it threw all rules out the window.
Developed initially as a four-wheel-drive Group B contender, the
959 was the first to bring space-age complexity to the racetrack.
Its body showcases an incredible synergy of aluminum and Aramid
(Kevlar), lighter than a whisper but tough as nails. It's like
Porsche took a page out of Formula One's book, then wrote a whole
new chapter with it.
Underneath that sleek exterior roars a 2.85L powerhouse. This
six-cylinder 'boxer' engine, decked out with air cooled cylinders
and water-cooled double-overhead-camshaft four-valve cylinder
heads, was a marvel. Boasting 450bhp, this titan can blast past
195mph without breaking a sweat.
But the 959 wasn't just about speed. It was a symphony of
sophisticated technology and luxury. With a four-wheel-drive and
six-speed transmission that could adapt to any condition and double
wishbone suspension for a ride as smooth as silk, this car was a
dream to handle. And let's not forget the comforts - electric
windows and mirrors, climate control, and seats that adjust just
the way you like.
The Porsche 959 is a highly sought-after and rare sports car that
was difficult to acquire due to its limited production and high
demand. The model was nicknamed "Porsche's gift to its favorite
customers." The desirability of the Porsche 959 was so strong that
even collectors in the United States, where the cars could not be
legally imported, sought ways to obtain them through a "grey
market." However, the Show and Display Law 1998, supported by
Porsche legend Bruce Canepa, eventually allowed for the legal
importation of the 959.
The 1987 Porsche 959 "Komfort" isn't just a collector's dream; it's
a beacon of automotive excellence. It stands as a testament to the
era when Porsche dared to redefine what a supercar could be. And
with only 292 of the 959 ever to be created it's one of Porsches
rarest.
The previous owner had a substantial car collection and put in over
$200k on the refurbishment of this car, which Canepa was honored to
complete given our history and passion for excellence in this type
of project specifically. He wanted this 959 to be in completely
original and pristine, unrestored condition. In addition, he wanted
to make sure it was mechanically and cosmetically like new, front
to back. Every mechanical component was fully tested with the goal
of having the car ready to enjoy for another 20+ years.
Upon arrival at Canepa, every collector car for sale is put through
an extensive and diligent process called the "Canepa Difference."
This includes a major and comprehensive mechanical inspection where
all systems are checked, serviced, and restored as needed. They
also receive award-winning concours-level detailing, including a
thorough cleaning of each and every surface.
