1966 Pontiac GTO The GTO line was now a separate series with distinctive trim on the new Tempest sheet metal. A wire mesh grille insert without horizontal divider bars was used. The grille incorporated rectangular parking lamps and a GTO nameplates on the left-hand side. A single scoop appeared on the hood, elongated V-shaped badges were mounted behind the front wheel openings. GTO lettering appeared on the deck lid and rear fenders. Standard equipment included all LeMans items, plus a special 389-cid four-barrel V-8, dual exhaust, heavy-duty shock absorbers, springs and stabilizer bar: and 7.75 x 14 redline or whitewall tires. This 1966 GTO is a remarkable example. The GTO was part of an estate, and it had been in storage for a number of years. Consequently, there were a host of mechanical and cosmetic issues that needed to be addressed.
