For Sale: 1966 Ford Falcon Futura in Farmingdale, New York

Vehicle Description

1966 Batmobile for sale! Motorcar Classics is pleased to offer this 1966 Batmobile, the fifth Batmobile that renown George Barris and Andy Perillo completed in 1996. This vehicle was licensed and used by George Barris, Fox Studios and Warner Brothers. This is the only Batmobile other than the original #1 car that was ever driven by Adam West! This example sits on a Ford Galaxie frame and custom fiberglass body. Features of this 1966 Batmobile are detailed specifically as the original car appeared. All of the moldings around the windshield are closely replicated to match the original FUTURA including the rain gutters, weather seals, dome, moldings, and intricate chrome work. All the moldings on the car are neat and tight, including the windshield. The moldings on the dashboard are all hand crafted out of stainless steel. Many of the moldings on this car, including the boomerang shaped one are examples of trim work which was only included on the original Futura/Batmobile and not on replica cars. To open the door from the outside there is a push down lever type handle at the top of the door, which was unique to the Futura as well. As you look at the floor you will notice over the carpet outstanding looking stainless steel panels that accentuate the features of the floor, as well as the gas, brake and foot resting pedals. These features were part of the Futuras high quality look and George Barris often said no kit or copy car will ever go through the pain staking work to make these beautiful features come alive again. The dashboard is sleek and unique and includes features such as the compass, radar indicator, custom switches and Futura gear indicator lights. One of the best features is the steering wheel, which was unique to the Futura prototype and used in the Batman series for several episodes, but removed because Adam West needed additional space because of his height. The steering wheel also shows the speedometer and odometer in the center of the wheel, along with shifting lights. The bats on this vehicle are also unique, as they do not appear on any other Batmobile used in any of the Warner Brothers Vehicles. One of the features that were not included in the original #1 car is the hidden compartment above the drivers head, in the center of the roof structure, which also incorporates a fuse box and switches that operates some of the unusual features of this car; handmade of stainless steel, highly polished with a slide a way trap door. One of which is the jet engine. The jet engine housed a flame thrower, but because the flame thrower would ignite the parachute bags, it was modified so that the jet engine would electronically extend several inches and prevent this from happening. This engine has been removed due to the requirements of the fire and police departments as well as the insurance companies however. Another unique feature is the motorized hood and trunk lid, with mechanical arms permitting the hood and trunk lid to open with the touch of a button. Behind the seats you will find two cylindrical cylinders that house speakers, but at one time were the air vents for the Futura. The gas tank was replaced with only a five gallon capacity tank due to the restrictions that the fire underwriters insurance required. More than often the three pipes in the back of the car were referred to as exhaust pipes, but they were not, they are rocket launchers. The wheels were made by the original custom wheel manufacturer used by George Barris. The bats that spin are unique because they are made of stainless steel and stay upright as you drive. The radar antenna detector on the firewall on the front of the car is unique and was created from the same templates that the original radar antenna was made from. When its extended it picks up the radio and TV frequency signals. Do not miss your opportunity to owns this piece of Batman history. Over the last 60 years George Barris has been the leader in the field of customizing cars for the TV and motion picture industry, the Batomobile being one of his most iconic and recognizable. Your inspection is invited!
