Vehicle Description
1971 Chevrolet Malibu Chevelle
In lieu of the fact of being in production for just 13 years - less
time than the Cadillac CTS nameplate - the Chevrolet Chevelle has
been heralded as one of the best, most accomplished vehicles ever
to don the bowtie. It shared a platform with the El Camino and
Monte Carlo: Though it was available in convertible, two-door,
four-door, and station wagon-wagon body styles, the multivariate
Chevelle also share it's A-body platform with the El Camino, and
the 1970-'72 Monte Carlo (though it was coded as a G-body in the
latter). Despite wearing one of the most famous nameplates of all
time, Chevrolet has yet to revive the name. Though we've heard
rumblings and rumors over the years, Chevrolet has vehemently
denied claims that a new Chevelle is in the works.
For consignment, the year to have the Chevelle was 1971. From its
sporty grille to the rear bumper with the round tail lights
inserted within and miles of dark blue metallic paint with black
wide racing stripes with inverted flames within them, and a sexy
black vinyl top for that great roofline and back glass, you can
turn heads and the tires with this ass kicker.
Exterior
Steeped in Dark blue metallic which is now covering all rust-free
panels of this muscle car. The finish is pristine, and all chromed
trimmings are excellent. Badging is correct, and from top, (black
vinyl), to bottom, (which is a shiny stainless rocker), front,
(which is the original bowtie egg crate grille with SS badge in the
center), to back, (housing the taillights in the bumper), this car
is definitely tightly buttoned up. Dual wide black racing stripes
are on the hood and trunk and sport knockout flames in their
centers. Put on a set of 17 and 18-inch polished hurricane pattern
CNC cut wheels and wrap them in Nitto Extreme rubber on all 4
corners ... It's show time!
Interior
A typical but really nice SS door panel with some vertical tuck and
roll, (think top half of the bowtie!), greets us as we slip into
custom high back buckets made from black vinyl and have blue flames
stitched within their inserts. The flames even extend on to the
floors as they lick to the gas pedal, (think BOOM!). A rear
matching bench is in the back. These cozy up to the black carpeted
center hump with a T style Hurst shifter. Up front, below the
padded dash top, is a simple GM dash, (120MPH speedo), with several
add ons which include a Pioneer AM/FM/CD player and a trio of
aftermarket gauges in a shiny panel. These monitor oil pressure,
water temp and volts. A billet style ribbed wing style rally wheel
has a tachometer mounted to the column. Above is a very nice black
headliner as tight as a drum.
Drivetrain
A stunner and a gunner if you will, upon opening the hood, it is
showroom shiny, and sports a 350ci Jasper crate engine. It has a
beautifully painted orange/red block, and plenty of chrome add ons
like the Chevy badged chrome valve coverings and the open sided air
cleaner holder. On top is an Edelbrock 1406 4-barrel carburetor and
intake manifold both courtesy Edelbrock. On the back is an TH350
3-speed automatic transmission. The rear axle is a 12-bolt. Ceramic
coated headers aid the exhale, and a high voltage ignition has been
installed, along with an aluminum radiator.
Undercarriage
Much like the topside with slight surface rust but remaining
structurally sound. Seen are power drums all around, independent
coil springs for the fronts and a 4 link with coil springs for the
rear suspension. A nice clean black painted environment with very
little road dirt.
Drive-Ability
This car lit right up and ran beautifully on the test track. Plenty
of acceleration from the 350 and 4-barrel, and good handling.
Braking was solid and all other functions were working, save the
heater blower.
A great presentation, fine runner and all very nicely finished off,
particularly in the engine bay, but really all over including the
interior which is totally carom seats. Great color combo, nice
powerful mill, and all good on the SS Malibu trim Chevelle front,
rear , center and interior..well you get it!
